Pinging
Pinging
My 2000 Maxima has started to ping. I always use premium fuel. I think the pinging is related to the coils. I am aware that a TSB has issued for this.
My car has over 40K miles. Will I have to pay for installation of the new coils? If so, does anyone know what this will cost? Must I go to the dealer or can an independent shop perform the work?
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated. Also, can anyone provide a link so I can actually print this TSB.
Thank you.

Pinging sounds like a diesel engine under acceleration. Kind of a tinny popping sound.
To test your coils, go find a long incline with some grade. Then, drive up and try to hold your car at about 2500 rpm. If your coils are shot, you will start to sound like a diesel truck and it will definitely hesitate.
Good luck. I had to fight my **** off to get my coils replaced prior to the TSB. Hopefully, this will be easier for you.
