so hot it hurts
Hi all. It is crazy hot here in Indy. Today i got in my car for lunch and pushed the AMB button,,,freaking 110. The leather seats were so hot, i almost had 3rd degree burns on my ar$e.
Oh the problem is the A/C is taking about 1-2 minutes to blow cold air. Is that normal??By the time the cold air starts, i am sweating like a pig. Can i recharge the A/C myself? Does it take FREON??
thanks

110 That aint ****. I'm not sure about the A/C recharge question, but:
The FASTEST way possible to cool down the car is to immediately roll down the windows as you start the car and begin driving. Turn OFF the A/C recirculation mode, so the A/C draws OUTSIDE air, and turn the A/C to full(you might want to aim the vents away for a few seconds). Once the INSIDE oven temp air is evacuated, roll up the windows leaving about a 1" gap and turn ON recirculation mode. Allow the A/C time to push all the incab air out the gaps as it cools down the cabin. Once the cabin is becoming comfortable, roll up the windows completely.
Using a sunshade with dark tinted windows will keep the leather from becoming blistering hot. However, the seat belts and metal components are still scorching.
BTW, I used to valet park Californians' BLACK on BLACK leather vehicles all summer long, when OUTSIDE temps. averaged high teens(ie.116-119*F), but would peak between 120-125*F during Aug/begining of Sept.. I used to get U-welts on the tip of my finger from the UNLOCK buttons on some cars. I couldn't even sit on the seat! I would hover over the seat and use a piece of paper to turn the steering wheel. I swear those Californians' NEVER tip good enough for those cars.

110? That's nothing.......
Hope you know I'm razzing you since I'll be back in Bloomington in 3 weeks, but I'm glad you got to feel what it's like to live in a warm climate. I'm sure most people on the west coast have learned that it is better to leave your windows cracked to let air circulate. Even with the window tint the car gets to be a sweatbox without cracking the windows. It is better to have the interior at 104 then at 125+.
Completely off topic, it baffles me that most of the midwest does not have A/C in their homes. For the last three years when I get to school I sweat my ***** off for the first 2 months because of the heat and humidity. I'd almost rather be here in Las Vegas where everything has A/C or misters.

reminds me one time I parked my car under the sun and leave my metallic frame sunglass on the dashboard. few hours later, came back, got into the car, and without thinking....put the hot sun glasses on
the hot frame left me two marks on my face
here in bay area...the highest temp in the past 2 week was 85.

Oh man it is soo damn hot here in Phoenix. I go golfing for 4 hours while my car sits out in the lot just cooking, and I come back and can't even go inside. I quickly open the door, turn the car on and blast the AC full blast and wait a few minutes for the car to cool down. If I were to get in right away and roll down the windows like previously mentioned, I would scorch myself from either touching the seat belt, steering wheel, shift ****, whatever. Leather sucks in the heat. Hell, I only have tan leather, feel bad for the black leather guys...

He said it makes a HUGE difference in how fast your car heats up and makes the A/C work a lot better.

I chose not to have it installed, since I'm pretty blind as is, so I definitely didn't want to "blur" my vision anymore.

I'm planning on coming down soon though to check out Alexs' shop(Max8MyCash), so hopefully I can get a few of the Phoenix guys together that weekend.

new cars dont use freon nemore.. it's some other chemical.. freon is very efficient but highly toxic when combined with extreme heat. it'll turn into nerve gas if combined with heat. when you turn on the ac dont' crank it to the lowest position have it at roughly around 73 or so and let the system work.. at times it feels like it takes forever but that's normal.. if you still think it doesn't work like it "should" then ahve it checked out.

One thing about the heat...
Its not the HEAT is the HUMIDITY...
All you desert guys have 110-120 degree heat with like 20% (exaggareration) humidity. Here in the Midwest/South the summer weather can be oppressive. So, I feel your pain (from Evansville).
