TINTED 5th GEN owners L@@K

I got my car tinted a month ago witha group deal i had setup for the canadian maxima drivers..

Anyhow, the 5th gens have that factory sunshade on the rear glass and my tint didn't stick too well. Tint King says this happens on all new cars they do..

Do you guys have this problem?? Any pics??

if youre talking about the dot matrix pattern at the top, i've noticed that many tinted 5th gens are like that.

My car wasn't tinted there either and you can't tell a difference at all. The tint who did my car said it wouldn't stick there either. Who knows if it will or if it won't, but either way it looks fine to me.

i have the tint over the matrix, and it sticks fine and looks great. it all depends on the quality of the tint job.

Yeah, same.

I have it over the matrix too and the whole job look tight as hell. I didn't know that people were having this problem, mine is fine so far though.

A lot of cars have this "dot matrix" crap on their rear windows. If the tint shop is any good, they'll spray some glue crap up there and the tint will stick to it...at least that's my experience with my other cars.

ditto

I got my car done at Ziebart Auto Glass & I purposely ask about the back window if its going to be a problem w/ the dot matrix. The guy adviced me no they are experienced & they apply a special liquid (didnt say what it was) over that area & it will be fine. I have to say my tint job is pretty bad a$$

Dot Matrix

Mine was tinted right over the dot matrix. It turned out fine. From the inside out you can see areas where it probably didn't completely on the glass....at least that's what I think the problem is. It just looks a little lighter, but you cannot tell at all from the outside looking it. You should be fine, if you use a quality tint shop! I used the Formula 1 Premier (or Ultra....whatever the top line F1 is).

back in the days the hardcore people sanded the matrix down.. they dont' do that anymore because some times they accidently either scratch the glass, or sand off the defroster lines. and sometimes if the matrix isn't done properly it'll rust.

I'm getting tint soon on my Grey Lustre 2k SE. What should I be looking for when I go shopping at various shops? My friend told me that I should make sure that i'm paying for Metallic tint that won't fade or something. Is this correct? Any brands of tint that i should ask about? Is metallic tint that silver/mirror color? I don't want that on my car if it is. I don't want fading or any problems, so i just need to know what questions to ask the installers so i don't sound like a push-over. I def don't wanna get shafted

Getting "metallic" tint does not mean a mirror finish; it's just the highest quality film you can get. Your metallic films should be guaranteed for as long as you own your car. If you get the lesser quality films that have non-metallic dyes in them, they'll fade over time. Oh yeah, my rear glass was tinted up to the dot pattern and I notice no problem with it. HTH

I got mine done here in Tucson at the Specialists. They have 4 grades of Formula 1 film. I got the Premier because the Millenium wasn't shiny. Mine is 50% metal and is reflective, looks beast! Yes, I said Beast! The Millenium is 100% metaled and isn't shiny. Mine came out fine. I watched em do it. They put half of it up and the top wasn't attached until it dried halfway, then they put it up. Worked great, lifetime warranty on tint and install. 200 even for the job.

I believe it prevents the rear passengers from getting their heads burned if your rear window is not tinted. Someone also mentioned it houses the antenna

I had a '95 Integra with the same thing and the tint shop tinted over it. I looked like crap.

For my '02 Max, my friend's tint shop did it and DIDN'T tint the top because they don't recommend it. I looks good not tinted anyway.

always tint over the dot matrix, it just looks silly with a line between where the tint starts and stops. if you go to a dealer that won't do this, walk away. the problem with tinting over dot matrix is that the spaces are too close together for the film to get in between the spaces.

Mine looks good and it tinted over. On my old 2K SE, they did a so-so job , and it was a little blotchy in a few areas. I asked them to redo it it, and after the second try they got it perfect. On my 2K2, I gave the shop the heads up in the dot matrix thing and to please do a thourough job. It came out sweet!

The dot matrix is the radio antenna.

UH, TRY AGAIN.

It is for light dissipation, kind of like a 'visor' for the rear window. The antenna is in the lower right (looking from the trunk) of the window.

Local shop puts a piece of black vinyl over "dot matrix" and then tints the window. Comes out great

i got 20% tint on my car a few months ago. I asked the question regarding the dot matrix and the guy told me that if i was going 35% that he wouldnt tint the dot matrix because the blend would be perfect. He did tell me however that if i didnt titn the dot matrix with the 20% that there would be too much of an extreme in the shade difference and that it would look funny. Anyhow, he tinted over the dot matrix and there is slight issues with it. From the outside looking in at the back window you can see tiny little bubbles where the dot matrix is. Its hard the explain but it aint too much of a big deal. I think i would prefer slight small bubbles rather than the color difference if it wasnt tinted at alll.

BTW, those small bubbles are the reason why they dont tint the dot matrix. After a hundred expansion/contraction cycles (winter), they might not be so small.
