Dumb question

The other day an .org member asked me if I am going to take off the pin stripe. Is this something that everyone does; I never thought about it, but it seems I'm the only one here that hasn't done it.
What's the deal?

I don't think that the maxima's came with pin stripes. I know neither of mine came with stripes. Is must have been a dealer installed add-on.

Anyway...If you like them...keep em on. Who cares what others think.

I asked the dealer if they could throw a pin strip on and they did it for free.
(How could it be expensive? You can buy a pinstrip at Pep Boys for $5 and just put it on yourself if need be).

I got a two tone grey and silver on my Sterling mist, it blends in nicely....

Re: Dumb question

My Maxima didn't come with pinstripes, but when I got my Sentra SE-R, it already had pinstripes on it. It's a dealer installed item. That's how they gouge you in order to make more off a car.

I saw the list of dealer-installed options and went "$300 to $400 for pinstripes?!? Gotta be kidding." I mean, come on, it's really just two long thin sticker strips! But once it's on, you can't have the dealer take it off and knock the price off. I hate it when dealers do stuff like that to their cars as soon as it comes off the truck. Damn dealers.

Re: Dumb question

I told my dealer that if the car had them on - I wanted them off, and would refuse to pay for them.

The dealer add on sticker is $999.95 for pinstriping, mudflaps and something else - I laughed in their faces for that! Hell - for $5 go to Walmart and pick up pinstriping and do it yourself if you want it. I don't like the way it detracts from the cars look (personally).

If you like pinstripes keep 'me. When I got my car I made sure they weren't on there. I've seen a lot of GLE's with stripes at the dealership though.

I live in TX. I used to paint the pinstripes on. If the person who painted them on did it to last, the only way you can get them off is to sand them down and repaint. I have some on my 2k2, they look ok.

My wife's 2k1 5spd icelandic pearl has two thin gray and teal pinstripes nicely painted on. I did not pay extra for them. My 2k2 6spd Sterling Mist does not have them. The dealer definitely did this on my wife's car. ---FRank

2000 SE here and i have two light goldish colored pinstripes on my superblack maxima. i thought about taking them off... but didn't. now it's two years later and i really want to take them off... but im concerned that it's messed up the paint! oh well, i guess i'll just leave them on until i get a new paintjob someday.

Actually I heard from all the HONDA owners that you get 2HP from each sticker u have, this means that u have 4HP since there r two pin stripes on each side of your car.
