Nissan is fixing my paint chips (sorta)

Well, after going back and forth with Nissan customer care and Ed Hicks Nissan, we have all come to an agreement... Nissan pays 1/3, the dealer pays 1/3, and I pay 1/3 to repaint the front of my car. I'm not totally happy with this but it's better than nothing. In my mind, it's like them telling me to pay 1/3 for WARRANTY work. We ALL know that this paint is defective.

Some questions for you guys...

Is this a good deal (based on your collective experience)?

What kind/brand of paint should I tell the body shop to use?

The dealer here has no body shop.... they farm the work out to an external shop.

At least Nissan and the dealer are actually paying most of it. I don't know of anyone actually getting Nissan to pay for it, you're the closest.

if the paint chips off due to rocks and stuff on the freeway then that's normal because almost, if not all automanufactures use a waterbased paint that is not all that durable compared to the tough gorgeous oil based paint they used back in the days. (environment reasons) also i think nissan uses PPG which is a good quality paint but not the best. i prefer the brand sikens (sp?) their paint is top notch and is slightly more durable than ppg.

What was their reasoning for not repairing it free. I have the same problem with chips on the hood of a 2002 GLE with 5,000 miles on it. Went to the dealer today and he said Nissan Rep. would call me to setup a meeting to see the car. Did you have to do that also?

They are not admitting anything about the paint... They have termed it a "good will" offer. Oh well.

They didn't give me a reason... they are calling it a good will fix. I did not have an inspector look at it... the dealer said inspectors ALWAYS deny the claim. You best bet is to go through Nissan customer care (the 800 #)

Thanks for the reply. I'll let you know what the Nissan guy tells me and if is not good, then I will try the 800 # to Nissan. Thanks
