OD button is good enough for me.....If I really want to shift the gear, I would get a manual.

tiptronic is still auto.

I personally don't like it. I've driven many cars equipped with it, including the TL-S. It make for IMHO it makes for awkward shifting, and comes nowhere to being like a manual tranny.

I don't like tiptronic. I can't stand the feeling.
Most importantly though...I fear it. I fear tiptronic-like transmissions will wipe out manual transmissions.
Manuals are already so damned rare in North America nowadays, I don't want to see them replaced with fake ones...scares me...

I still prefer a true manual tranny, but I enjoyed driving the G35 around on the test drive in manual mode. Pretty easy to deal with and smooth shifting. It would take me a while to adjust to how the computer is partially in control and the driver is partially in control, but not such a bad thing in my opinion.

It's the only way to have a compromise for those of us whose spouses can't drive a standard . You get *some* control over your shifting although it is not as satifying as a real manual.

I agree with a previous post: the availability of tiptronic shifting should in no way limit the enthusiast from having the choice of a true manual (Attn: Nissan marketing weenie - take heed. Don't limit our tranny choices based on some pointy-headed bean counter).

That's exactly why I DO drive a standard. I can only imagine the number of curbs she would check with my new wheels if I was insane enough to let her drive my car.

reminds me a story...
we were in this guy's manual civic and we went to a party 60 miles away....when the party was over @ 3am, no one could drive b/c we were all drunk...the guy's gf didnt drink at all, but she didnt know how to drive manual and she was too affraid to go on freeway.

yup...she did a 30 mph for the entire 60 miles drive in first gear and we took local....and we saw sunrise when we got home. (we had to pull over couple times b/c the ride was too jerky and we had to puke)
