Squeaky Windows

It's been awhile since I've been here and apologize in advance if this issue has been discussed (but I found few hits when I did a search). Anyway, the window on the drivers side squeaks when it is raised, almost like the rubber is dry and sticky. The hits on the search recommended white lithium grease and one recommended silicone spracy (I guess a WD-40 type spray). I didn't want to go this route without some confirmation from you guys. What do you suggest?

I have the exact same problem... from what I read, silicon spray works well. make sure youdon't use WD-40.. I think it's oil based, and will probably make your window looks nasty..

Yep, you should be able to get it at any hardware store or automotive store. I have gotten into the habit of spraying some wd-40/silicone first with the door open unitll I see some seap out the bottom. Just make sure you spary it slow so it doesent splash everywhere.. No you've just killed two birds with one stone. Lubed your window and also got some lube on the bottom seam of the door to prevent rust..

All four of my windows seem to have a tight fit. My passengers get scared when I open the windows, 'cause they make the "puhhhh" noise when I open them. And then they make the squeeky noise anytime I move them. Wouldn't spraying something make it smear all over the window?
I thought it was only me since I have tint.??

I spray down the rubber tracks on the front and back.. Just stuff the straw in there and spray slowly and easy. I never have a problem smearing any on the windows...

Here's What I Did

Went to PEP Boys, bought a can of silcone spray for $2.99 and sprayed the side tracks of all four windows. The windows now operate smoothly and quietly.

Is there any smear on the windows now? You sprayed the side tracks of the windows? I think the rubber, at the base is what makes mine squeek.
I think I'll visit pep boys today anyway.

So, you guys are spraying silicone directly onto the side of the rubber tracks that face the window, right? It sounded from someone else like it was being sprayed down into the door - I can't quite visualize how that will work without getting it all over the window.

My driver's side window is killing me . . .

thanks.

yeah, all automotive places sell products for this. All of them are fairly damaging to your paint. I spray them onto a cotton rag, then wipe down the track a few times.

dont use wd40, the rubber will break down and crack over time.

From what i've drawn, i think you should put the window down then stick a straw in the middle of the rubber then spray both side of the rubber evenly. And the damm noise should go away. that what i'm going to do right after work today because my driver side window is killed my too. .

This happens to me about once a year (2000 Max). I just take it to the dealership and they fix it free in 3 minutes. No biggy...

They'd probably tell me they won't fix mine because it has mods!

Yeah, probably

I have mods but my dealership is nice and they keep my car under warranty.

I'm having the same problem w/the squeaking and the passenger window being slooooooow to come up. Took it to the dealer yesterday for that issue in addition to some other problems- they told me that the problem was the fact that the windows were tinted and the tint is too thick. WTF, the windows have been tinted for almost 2 years- all of a sudden the tint is to thick to let the windows function properly? Please.

Dealership comes up with the stupidest things. They didn't want to hook up their diognostic to my car when I had the check engine light, since I had the cone air filter and that would damage their diognastic machine.

I'm gonna spray some silicone after work today.
Take care.

I think I have the solution...

I own an '89 Maxima I bought new right out of college and to this day it continues to be 100% reliable and dependable. I'm usually looking at the gen3 board, but my retired parents bought one of the first 2000 Max SE's with the 17" wheel package (had to be patient and wait!). They now have almost 40K miles on the odo. So now I'll keep an eye on this board too.

I just saw Dad this past weekend and he told me about how his driver window was still sqealing on the way up and down. He too has deep tinting (we're all in Florida and the car is Black) and at first I thought it might be that. But, he just took it to the dealer last week (they HAD been putting silicone in the tracks before) and THIS time they fixed the problem, not just cover it up!

I guess an enterprising young lady (service tech) looked up the problem on the Nissan database. It came up as a TSB and the solution was to replace the entire track with an improved version. They never blamed the tinting and the window now appears to be fixed.

I do not know enough about the gen5, although I should bone up, since my parents seem ready to trade it for an LS430 and at that point I might step in to take it off their hands (what are kids for?). My only worry is that if I had the 2000 the speeding tickets would mount up soooo fast! My kids get a kick out of Grampa's Maxima! Gramma's ES300 does nothing for any of us!

Hope your dealer finds the solution listed above. By the way the dealer charged zero for the repair. Good Luck!

Where did you find the TSB re: the window track? The Max is going back first thing Sat. morning and I want to have my ducks in a row before I lose my mind in the middle of the repair dept.

I've called nissan- they weren't much help. I've also called a local dealer and asked him to do some research- I'm waiting for a call back. If/when I get info, I'll post...

I wish I knew more...

I just saw your reply... I cannot be absolutely sure if it in fact was a TSB, she may have gone on Nissan's online techline of some sort, or maybe Nissan has some other way of communicating with the service techs. What I do know is that my Dad was not the first with the problem at that particular dealership and the solution just popped up last week for the first time. He was the first person to have this done to the Maxima.

As I said previously, he had gone through the silicone "fix" on prior visits for oil changes, and at this last oil change AFTER the male tech said the only solution currently is still silicone, Dad made a fuss about what he expects from a $30K car and at that moment the female tech stepped in and said she would try to see if Nissan had a permanent solution. She then found it.

I personally hate dealer service... have NEVER had to use the dealer for the '89 except to have the Tbelt replaced. But I know that with my wife's new Pathfinder LE we might have to have adjustments done if they crop up just because it is under warranty and the fix is free. BUT... if I can figure something out myself and correct the annoyance or fix the offending part... I will do just that... to avoid any hassles. Just me, of course, and I would not swallow the cost of the window track if I were you either! But then, I would never take it to the dealer just so they could spray silicone. I had a helluva time convincing Dad I will fix the TSB wind noise on his Max rear doors (thanks to this web site!). It will take all of 10 minutes and I will not wreck the car in any way and he will not have to drive 15 miles to the dealer to sit and wait!

But you know how old(er) people can be... set in their ways. Never wanting to bother their kids with their problems. C'est La Vie!

Gotta return some calls... Good luck on getting the window fixed! I'll check later next week to see how 'ya did!

the length of the spray lasting depends mostly on how many times you put the window up/down......the less you do it, the less you will need to spray, and the more you do it, the more times you will have to spray.

I haven't sprayed mine in three months, when I spray the windows are down all the way and I use the red straw that comes with the spray bottle.

You are spraying the sides of the window track not the window!!

I also spray all 4 windows because they do dry out

hope this helps

i took mine in yesterday because the window actually got stuck and i thought the motor or switch went bad. it was just so dried up that it got stuck. they sprayed it down and now both front windowns roll up as fast as one another. im sure it wont last long but he said to come back anytime i wanted to have it done again.
