2000 Maxima SE Auto vs 1994 Civic DX Auto
2000 Maxima SE Auto vs 1994 Civic DX Auto
Sorry patrick, you know i gotta do this!
Well, I had issued a challenge to Adman the challenge was:
his 2000 Maxima SE, with GC coilovers, rsb, bling bling rims, cracked y-pipe (courtesy of me), exhaust, intake, a roughly estimated bhp of 235hp...strapped to an underachieving automatic transmission. Weight, probably close to 3500lbs with driver.
vs.
my daily driver, which is a 1994 Civic DX, with road dirt, dirty oil, 87 octane gas, and a penchant to get 31mpg with the AC on. My only advantage would be sticky tyres wrapped around 15x6.5 11.8lb wheels..increasing my rotational mass by 4lbs per wheel (stock wheels/tyres are 28lbs). estimated power is 102hp (stock) with a curb weight of around 2500lbs with driver.
Who would win?!
Sunday, August 18, 2002. Adman's towering 6' 4" height with a perplexing smile that rivals pedophiles was to manage a best of a 29.1xx. Alas, the street tyres along with the automatic would hinder a better performance...along with a 17 year old girl named Holly would wore low-cut shirts.
On my first run, my 102hp Civic managed to match Adman's best run, with a 29.1xx. The childish grin wiped across my face as I knew Adman was mine!
The next run would have me beat Adman's time by more than half a second.
In the fourth and fastest run of the night for the 102hp Civic did a best of 27.8xx. 1.3seconds FASTER than the almighty 2000 Maxima! The 1.5L with a suspension softer than a rav4 would own the Maxima...and win me a date with a 17 year old with whom would get me arrested if the police ever knew
.
Later that night, we found out what Adman's problem was... his brakes faded, the super-secret armest compartment had a 65lb piece of steel in it, his windshield washer lights were blinding him as he installed them backwards, and he kept complaining about how his maxima understeered when he slammed on the brakes in turns (i was confused by this as well).
Patrick, it was fun....but you need race tyres or you need to get your wee honda running so you can reek havoc.

Still...
gotta give his Max credit!
I mean with the wheelbase, suspension, and weight differences still a pretty good showing.
Kind of like watching a 220 lb. 6'2" 35 year old chasing his 7 year old son around the house...even in the best shape, physics are not on his side!!

In Patrick's defense, he did beat a Mustang GT
Auto-x? Well considering auto-x favors small/light vs big and heavy, I'm not suprised.
When I was watching one of the few Auto-x events I've attended, I saw stock miatas w/ gumwalls pull times fully prepped Mustangs/Vettes couldn't beat.

Auto-x isn't a good medium to compare a civic vs. a max.
A full track would be slightly better. Problem is that you'd have to find a track that doesn't give an advantage to either car. A lot of sharp turns would give the advantage to the civic and a lot of longer straights would give advantage to the max.
Second of all, the fact that the max had street tires and the civic had the Kumho ECSTA V700 nulls everything. You can't compare two vehicles with completely different tires. I tried one track on street tires and then on my own Kumnho ECSTA V700 and managed to shave off 5 seconds. It makes that much of a difference. Fix those two issues (track and tires) and then there's still the driver factor as track racing requires technical skill. If both drivers are experienced or both drivers are inexperiences, then good. However, if one is experienced and the other isn't, you still can't compare the cars properly. I will admit though that the modded civics in my Solo-1 series constantly kick my ***. The stock civics don't stand a chance though. In any case, they're in a totally different class so I don't really compete against them. I just look at their times for fun.

Compared to the sportier Maxima with it's gobs of torque (in comparison) and it's god-like ability to carve corners (or some members would like to wish it did).
I, in no way, feel my civic dx is in any way better than Patrick's...or anyone's maxima. But, take into consideration that the Maxima's only downside in terms of suspension design and geometry over in comparison to the civic is... the rear axle. Otherwise, the Maxima has a far superior suspension. Stiffer spring rates. Better shocks. A REAR SWAY-BAR! And, of course, nifty secret armrest compartments.
But, truly, the tyres were the important factor in this. Which is why I was more willing to offer a challenge. God knows if i had ran the 13x5? wheels with the crappy big o' tyres, i would have been on the receiving end of this thread.
Unfortunately, what comes down to it at the end of the day:
A 2000 Maxima SE automatic lost to a 1994 Civic DX automatic in a race.

Hey Patrick, can you delivery holly to my place later tonite?

Holy **** that's a funny analogy. I know EXACTLY what your talking about, except I'm 25.

Don't want to sound like a party pooper/*******, just trying to put things into perspective. Again, congrats on your win.
hehehe
Body roll pwns me
Twice (beware, huge pic)
...either way, we both win
