245 on 18x7.5? Trouble?

I know the recommended size is 235 but how much trouble might it cause if I went 245? The rims I like right now are 18 x 7.5. If I could find them at 8 inches wide I would but they're not offered. Thoughts?

Thanks.

As long as you get a 45 profile you are fine.

A messed up speedo (3.2% slow assuming 17" 225 50 Stock Tire) - but Tire and Rim Association says that will work.

I wouldn't do it.

I was thinking 245/40, not 45 on the 18. That puts it under 2% variation from my 215/55/16 stock tire. Would you do it then?

Thanks.

the speedo isnt really what you should be worrying about. a 245 tire wont hug your 7.5 rim like a tire is supposed to. it is technically a little bit too big.

BUT i dont think you'll really have any major problems. it just isnt the best thing to do.

According to Tire and Rim Assos - 245/45/18 will work on a 7.5" rim.

No less no more.

He was looking at 40 instead of 45. 45 will work, 40 won't.

245/40 18
Range: 8-9.5"
Recommended: 8.5"

245/45 18
Range: 7.5-9"
Recommended: 8"

235 is the maximum width you can go on a 18x7.5 wide rim.

Nope. 245 is the maximum width you can go on a 18x7.5 wide rim. Check it out in the Tire and Rim Association Tables on page 5 of the FAQs.
