I recently took my car to the dealer for its regular check up and I mencioned to the service guy that my tires were making a weird noise. When I went to pick it up he said that my tires are wearing unevenly and that I should take it too a tire place. I have yet to do that, but I will and they will give me the runaround saying that alignment is not in the warranty and all this BS. So, after hearing this bull, I talked to my friend that owns a rim & tire shop. He said that I should never rotate my tires! Because you'll end up with four worn tires instead of two! His main arguement was that the back tires hardly wear on a front wheel drive car because they are just following and the front take all the beatings (ie burnouts, hanging turns..etc) What do you guys think about this?

Well.. you'll have 4 worn out tires in roughly twice as much time... Your call..

(ie.. if you don't rotate, think about it, those two front tires are gonna wear out twice as fast... And seeing as how you can't really drive anywhere with just 2 wheels, what good are the two rear wheels that you managed to save ???)

Just my stupid logic...

Don't take the guys advice. You should rotate your tires every 7500 or 10000 miles. You will end up just wearing out your front tires twice as fast if you don't rotate them. Plus, you may end up mixing and matching tires then, which is bad.

Ya.. mixing your tires is bad..

Why?? well I just found out today (see the ABS thread), that each tire apparently has a sensor which watches for rotational discrepencies.. [so that it knows when to activate the ABS system]

Even though I don't know how sensitive these sensors are, the tolerances between different tire manufacturer's are probably not standardized anywhere near the accuracy this thing requires in order to do it's job properly.. Just some speculation..

In either case, rotate your tires... it's not BS!!!

Rotate is the way to go! otherwise the uneven tire wear will affect handling

it makes plenty of sense because that's the best performing setup...

That dealer is full of BS.

The alignment does come in the warranty until 11,000 miles or so. I've got mine alligned at around 10,000 miles under WARRATY.Check in your warranty book, I think's it's in there.

12months or 12K miles and 1 allignment that nissan will pay for. if U R having problems with your tires U need to talk to the dealer and tell em WTF. the allignment may be the reason why U R getting tire problems, so if your car has less then 12K miles then they Owe U 1 free allignment.

Those asses told me that I have to take it to a tire place to get the alignment checked and tires inspected? So are you guys saying that the nissan dealership will reimburse me for those expenses?

Probably not.. If they chose to decieve you to begin with, they're obviously not interested in your patronage..

Perhaps if you threaten to call Nissan USA on them, although I'm not sure that it would help all that much..

Out of curiosity, how much did alignment cost you at a tire shop??

Ok 12 months 12K miles Nissan is responsible for any problems with your car. Tell the dealer, if my car is doing this crap with less then 12K miles then they need to see why its doing it. and if they give U a hard time tell em U'll call Nissan Consumer Affairs and have their *** fixed.

yes... my nissan place

reimburses... they tell you which shops they accept. you just bring them the reciept and they send a check to you. just be sure to find out who they use in advance. and yes, you get a free one up to 12K. period.

If they don't call 1-800-NISSAN1 and tell them what you were told. When I had my Sentra, I had a problem with the air flow wire harness that the dealer charged me for (they insisted it wasn't under warranty). Same symptoms came up months later, and another dealer told me that it was under warranty, and I never should have been charged in the first place. It took them about 1-2 months, but I got my check in the mail. I hope they took the $$ from the dealer who lied to me in the beginning.

oh.. and American Tire recommended I rotate my tires every 5000 miles since it's easier to remember than 7500 miles, and they do it for free so they're not trying to make any extra $$ off me.
