Getting rid of Power Tech Muffler....

Well, I after hundreds of ribbings from my GF, I have decided to go back to my stock muffler. While she agrees that the dual 4'inch tips look great, she HATES the extra noise. (Like I complain about the extra noise she makes when I spank her ) Anyway, it will be off on Saturday and I putting it up for sale.

I bought it for $100 on eBay about three months ago. I will let it go for $70 or best offer. Send me a PM if you are interested. For pics, go to Kloogy's homepage. We have the same setup.

Had this same problem with my old Honda. Couldn't even hear the stereo the APEXi exhaust was so damn loud. Greddy Evo was quieter. I'm staying stock for now on the Max though.

Never thought I would either. But now I'm not so sure I want a loud muffler. I'm thinking about some tips, which will cost as much as that Powertech muffler, but oh well...

Its pretty efficient,I think a straight through muffler only gets rid of like 1 or 2 pounds of backpressure, which doesnt amount to a whole lot in HP gains.

What would give the car little bit more growl without the annoying drown? Does the exhaust resonator make a big difference when removed? I still want to be able to take the car on long trips without going nuts, but I want to hear some more noise around town.

I think the perfect combo is:

Berk intake
Frankencar midpipe
Stillen Y pipe
2 1/2" catback
24" glasspack

I really like the sound of this setup. It's relatively quiet at idle, but at WOT, it roars.

Although I haven't seen the dyno results, I understand that the OEM muffler results in a 3 hp loss when compared to a straight-through muffler. That's not too bad considering what a great job the OEM muffler does of quieting even highly modified exhaust systems.

yup....they took the muffler off and dynoed again and only get 3 hp gain....that's why I wonder how much can aftermarket ones gain.

Exactly, [maxi-overdose]. An HKS prototype full catback system on a 2K Max only gained 5 hp. So what kind of gains can you expect from an aftermarket muffler alone?

I also think the fact that removing the OEM muffler only resulted in a 3 hp gain speaks very highly of Nissan engineering. Despite the disparaging comments made by some of the dimmer bulbs in our chandelier, I'm still unaware of any other muffler design that yields so much performance with so little noise.

I bet a lot of ppl change it for the sound and the look....I had a chane to hear the muffler sound from a 5zigen fireball on co-worker's Galant, the sound is not bad outside the car. But once I had a ride in the back seat....it's killing me and hard to have a conversation with my co-workers in the front. full cat-back maybe required if one's car is boosted or juiced.....

Thats exactly what I was going to say. If you go buy springs from them, they will be about 400 a set, and try buying a POS airbox assembly !

Dont judge quality on what the dealer charges you !

75 for a wind deflector that cracks within a month !

I had the same problem with my Magnaflow, but not until after I installed my Y-pipe. Once I had my Y-pipe installed, the drone was intolerable. I even installed a 26" Magnaflow resonator and that still wasn't enough to get rid of it. I had to reinstall my OEM muffler to make the drone go away.

I mean, who can forgot Warren G and Nate Dogg

Is there any way to "open-up" or unsilence the second part of the muffler (the ~3k+ rpms side) for a louder more aggressive sound?

Well, its off!

I took it off last night and replaced it with the stock muffler. Damn it, if I don't already miss it. Now its so quiet in my car, my GF can hear me fart

Bad thing, on the way to work, the exhaust pipe is now hitting my control arm and banging on every bump and right hand turn. They had to fabricate a new piece between the pipe and muffler where they cut the PowerTech off so I think that piece is to low. I ghetto rigged a piece of towel, wrapped with duck tape around the control arm to dampen some of the banging. That will have to work until I can get it fixed on Saturday.

Still a PowerTech guy, in not only in memory!
