Burnt clutch smell from rear brakes?
Yet ANOTHER problem with my '02 SE Auto.
Every time I get out after driving... there is that distinct burned clutch odor coming from my rear disk brakes. There is no smell at all from the fronts. Is this normal?

wheel temperature?
Is the wheel hot (when compared to the other wheels)? You may have a frozen caliper or stuck parking brake. If both rear wheels are hot (compared to the front) then its likely to be your parking brake.

I have experienced this same smell after slowing down quickly a few times or even just one hard stop.
My friend riding in the car commented he thought my engine was running hot but i told him its just my brakes. I do not abuse my car in the least but there are times when an abrubt stop must be made and it leaves me cringing because I know that horrible smell is sure to follow. IMHO they are the worst thing the Maxima has going for it. My next buy will be new pads but Im not expecting that smell to go away.
