Bad O2 Sensor at 34K miles?
Bad O2 Sensor at 34K miles?
The other day my 'Service Engine Soon' light came on, that was the first time ever. I took it in, and they said the O2 sensor was bad, and of course they didnt have any in stock, and they had to order it. Is it common for them to go bad that soon? I dont have any engine mods, and that is the first problem Ive ever had with my Max.

I have a 02 and mine went bad at 11,000. Which one was it on yours? Mine was the O2 sensor behind the cats (bank one I believe).

Reprogramming ECU
This is not a problem we see often. On 2002 Maximas, if you replace an O2 sensor, your must reprogram your ECM. A Technical Service Bulletin that requires this reprogramming. This reprogramming should keep you from having this problem again. If you have any questions, please e-,mail me at

bestnissanparts,
My dealership confirmed that they are doing a reflash and O2 change on Saturday.
What is the reflash for? I have had O2 sensors changed on other cars that did not require an ECM reflash. Does this fix a pre-existing problem (rich condition)?

Re: Bad O2 Sensor at 34K miles?
I am constantly getting a P0420 error on mine. But, I have just about as "straight-through" exhaust as you can get. I don't know if mine is 02 sensor related or just the ECU picking up the fumes/gases every once in a while.

I had my first o2 in my '00 at 49K. It was my 1st bank one. Now at 55K the main o2 went and my car has to be in the shop overnight to reprogram. I sure hope they can at least get me a loaner car that isn't a 94 Neon without a radio. We all know how Nissan dealerships can be when it comes to customer service.
