Engine revs slow to come down

Did a search, but didn't find any matches. When I let up on the accelerator, it takes the engine about one second before the revs start coming down. The tach and engine seem to be on 'hold'. This happens when I'm shifting gears as well as when I tried it just sitting in neutral in my driveway. Is this normal? I'm thinking the revs should drop more quickly. Any input?

This is normal and I actually it prefer it this way for rev-matching purposes.

I know I don't shift really fast...probably medium. Just turned 1000 miles, so I've been taking it easy. Plus the tranny is the 'normal' notchy. Think shifting faster would make a difference?

Slowly? I don't think so. In normal driving a slight delay in rpm dropoff helps me up-shift without blipping the throttle. Maybe the delay is longer on the 2k2 cars, I have a 2k Max.

I think the delay is worse on the 2k2 cars. I have to pause during the shift to wait for the RPMs to drop if I'm really trying to match it up.

I think if you open up the exhaust more and you air intake more, RPMs would drop much faster because the engine is breathing easier.

It's the way the engine is. The exhaust and intake does not solve this problem. I believe it's like that for smoothnesss.

This is the way all 5th gens are. It was done for emissions purposes (or at least that's what they (Nissan) says).

I had the same delay. I think it is due to the fly by wire system. Yes it is very annoying because it sounds like you are a rookie shifter. But... I have been driving it a little harder (I'm having a tough time waiting until 1,000 miles)and it seems the delay is less now, so I'm thinking that the computer is "learning" and dropping the revs faster.
The delay should be programmable, but I don't think anyone knows how to do it.

The 2k-2k1 models don't have fly-by-wire so the delay may indeed be less.

I know this is an old thread buy I have this same exact problem with my 02 6 speed.

Basically from 1st to 2nd, the rpms don't come down fast enough. I actually have to wait a second for the needle to come down to 1200 RPM(I shift from 1st at 2k) and people behind me get pretty annoyed unless a slip the clutch.

My brother has a 4th gen 5 speed and it doesn't happen at all on his.

Is there any fix for this?! Its the only part about the car that I hate

Not sure how much help I can be but the subject matter is a bit subjective. Maybe a video will help. That way we can see if it is truly slow and how slow. Is this a new problem? Did you just get the car?
