What would you buy?

I am still on the edge of getting a Fully loaded 6 speed Titanium maxima. I just looked at a nice silver 2K Audi AWD 1.8T 5 speed and started thinking. The max will be around $28K(New) and the audi about $21K similar options and low low miles.I don't know if the max is worth the extra money and if the modification outlook of the max will be as good or easy as the audi. I love maximas but I also like the design of the 2K-2K1 A4s. I am just trying to decide what to buy this week?

this may be no help but how about an older model S4? I know insurance is high on those and it's parts are stolen a lot. Today in the newspaper I read about it being stolen because its easy to get into. If thats easy to get into, don't you think the A4 is too? Hope you don't live in NY/NJ.

Well, I feel that the Max is still the better buy. You definitely get more bang for the buck. There is a ton of space inside the cabin. However, with the money saved by buying the Audi, you sure can buy alot of mods (wheels, bodykit, suspension and engine) and get that thing flying! Decisions decisions!pssst...go with the max!

Have you thought about a used 2K2 Max? Personally, I will never buy a new car again.

If your ONLY options are between those two cars, go with the Audi.

Given this choice I would only go to the Maxima if I needed the interior room.

Hmm. That seems like a good price on the A4.

Maxima pros: bigger, more power.

Audi pros: very little styling changes from '98 - 2001. Your friends will think you have a $45,000 car. And the A4 is a NICE car.

I test drove a A4 1.8t and i was not overly impressed, power was a little low. In stock form a 2k2 max I think is faster. I like haveing more room and the max has alot more than the A4. The other side is that if u put enough money into it the a4 will kill the max in power and handling, awd is nice. Just depends how much money u have to spend. The only way I would go with audi is a S4 or RS6. Good luck

A used 2002 would be better than a new 2003. And you'd be able to tell whether it's a problematic 2002 Max or a good one. I've seen a lot more realiability issues with the 2002/03 than the 2000/01.
As for the A4, it's nice but it does have less room (a lot less room), less powerful, and prone to electrical problems.
Although they are both 4 doors and within the same price range, they are different cars. Personally, I'd go with a used 2002 (making sure it hasn't had problems). The way I see it, the only Audi x4 I'd get is the S4, not the A4. As for the look, who cares if the design is old or new or what people prefer. It's subjective and the only thing that matters is whether you yourself like the look or not. I personally much prefer the older A4/S4 look than the new A4 look.

Answer these two questions:
How much power do you need?
How much space do you need?
If you answer these two questions with "not a huge amount", go with the A4, otherwise go with the 2003. (If the 2003 is your only option).

Remember, a Max depreciates fast. You can get a good deal on a 2002 as opposed to getting hit hard with a 2003.

The 2k2 max is WAY faster than a 1.8t stock. Now, add those darn chips for $300 and it gets a lot closer. Of course, you're still dealing with a Turbo and a SMALL 4cyl engine, plus the weight of AWD. You're looking at higher $$ down the road...plus it's already used, so you'll be looking sooner. (Turbo's last usually around 60k miles? maybe they're getting better these days)

Personally, I love the A4. I was choosing between the max and the A4, but the deal I got on my max was really good. I wish I had AWD, but if I was looking at the 6cyl (5cyl? I don't remember) version of the a4, even though the turbo could be modified easier.

Best of luck to you...you really can't go wrong with either car. I'm going to be jonesin this winter cause my car won't be able to get up to the mountain.

The intererior room on the A4 is non-existent. Make sure you consider this when making your choice...

How about a early 2000 Black AWD 5 speed 1.8T with 31K for asking price 19K Ofcourse I will lower it to about 18K. This is a Audi dealer. It comes with a 100K 2 year warrenty. I looked at a few audis and there paint seems alot better than Nissans. With the money I am saving I am going to buy a Chip and exhaust right away if I buy this. I would be in a 2K2/3 Maxima Right now if the nissan dealers where not such Aholes around here. I have been told I can't have a test drive for the max because I don't have a good credit check. I even told them my father was doing the loan.

That's decent. Just remember, if I only have to worry about paint chips, I'm extremely happy (which is my case, 2000 SE 5 speed black, many paint chips, not a single problem in 3 years). As I said earlier, Audis have been known for their electrical issues. That you don't see until you buy it If there's a warranty, that's great.
And if the Nissan bastards don't let you test drive the 02/03, I'd get the Audi and drive by the Nissan dealership showing off the Audi. I'd walk in and say, "shame I wasn't able to compare the two cars" and walk away
On a side note, I encountered an a$$hole audi salesguy who wouldn't let me drive the Audi S4 in 45 degree weather because the tires were sport tires. Jesus, how lame of an excuse is that. Those P6000 aren't S03s! So Audi dealerships can be very snobby as well. I so wanted to buy an S4 from another Audi dealership or private sale and drop by saying, something like, "You were right! It is a nice car!"

i looked long and hard at the an a4 before i settled on my 2k2 max. we all know the advantages of the max (room, power, etc). what i noticed with the a4 was its razor sharp handling (i drove one with the sports package). quattro was downright stunning. my test drive was on a very rainy day...i was waiting at a light, and from a stanstill, i floored it to make a 90 degree right turn. not even a hint of wheelspin...amazing. you're also going to get better build quality in an audi as i think the interior is beautiful and solidly constructed. windnoise was also much better than our maxes. but the engine was louder...and because it was a 1.8, i didn't think that it sounded all that great (too small). in the end, i opted for the max because there was too big of a difference in power, and room. i'm 6'2, and i move stuff around a bit for school, so for me that was important. i hope that my observations were helpful, and happy choosing! you can't go wrong with either car, as long as it fits what you're looking for!

The salesman called me at about 5pm yesterday and was asking if I would come to there Big Sat sale and have popcorn and maybe lunch. He also wanted to know if I got my father to co-Sign the loan app so he can check it and maybe go for a test drive if I am serious about buying a max. I said No and that I am going to test drive a audi on sat. Then he just went silent and I hung up on him. I just am kinda ****ed because if they where alittle more managable, I would be in a 2K3 about a already. I guess I will have to deal with paying about $200 less a month for the audi. I will see today when I go test drive. I love the maximas power and room but I love audis style, Moddability and AWD.

Does the A4 yu are interested in come with Xenons I love the Audi Xenons. I would say go fro the Audi that would be a really rewarding car for you considering all the plans you have and the aftermarket support that car has. You can really customize that car to be extreme sporty and good looking.

Nothing can top the Jaguar X-Type HIDs, its just to sick to compete with, and i think you should go with the Maxima. Maxima has a strong engine, also has HIDs, its roomy, aftermarket scene is gettin up there. A4's are nice, but i wouldnt buy one USED, thats just me.
