Anti-Seize on wheel studs!
Re: Anti-Seize on wheel studs!
I've always put anti-seize on and I still will in the future, but I have a funny (embarrassing) story related to this.
I'll try and make it short and to the point. My wife's 97 SE was making this repetitive thumping noise from the driver's side front. It seemed to go away when you accelerated or braked. Just when you were coasting you'd here it. So we took it to the dealer. A day and a half of investigation later, they concluded that the wheel was 'loose' because the sound went away when they reassembled my car.
I'm not sure I buy their explanation, but it did occur a few weeks after I did the brakes on that car and was careful not to overtighten the lugs (and used anti-seize).
I'll tell you what bothered me about this whole thing - they probably spent a few hours investigating what the problem was and this only cost $35. When I take my car in for them to pull a code the diagnostic fee is $70. Dealers suck.
