Attn: Navigation System Owners!!!

Anyone have an idea as to what the two "blank" buttons on the bottom left corner of the unit are for? Check out NYC2SD's signature for a pic of the screen (it's sort of tough to see). All you who own the unit will know what I'm talking about?

Also, there are a few threads out there of people who are looking to swap cd's with each other. It doesn't look like any of us have responded to any of those posts. I have MCA 7 and would like MCA 6 and MCA 8. I know NONE of us trade bootleg copies so I'd be happy to send my actual CD to one of you in return for your actual CD. What you choose to do with my CD for the few days you have it is up to you!!!!

THANKS!!!

I have NAV and to be honest... I'm not sure. I don't believe the buttons do anything at all. I use my NAV a lot, and have never used those buttons. I would be inclined to think that they are buttons that are in use elsewhere (Japan, other models, etc) but not on the 2k2 Max here in the U.S.

I'll check when I get to my ride later on today to confirm, if this question hasn't already been addressed.

Yup,
You need different CD's. The US is broken up into 9 (I think) different regions. It really sucks, because each disc is $120. Also, you can't navigate to a location on another disc - i.e. if you're driving from NJ to FL, you'd need to purchase all the discs that cover that area, and then look at a traditional map to determine the points on the cd that you can navigate to, change discs, enter new destination, etc, etc. If this sounds confusing and frustrating, IT IS!! I expected this when I got the car, but I don't really care because the system was already in the car. Because my car was a leftover, I ended up paying next to nothing for the system. My father, on the other hand, was QUITE angry when he found the same problem with his $2500 NAVI system in his Mercedes. Not a smart design at all - bring on the DVD NAVI!!!

Thats stupid. I mean you dish out $2500 for a system you can only use in a certain area. Thats a rip off. I is possible to burn the CD's??

Just had our 2003 Maxima SE delivered over the weekend and I have a couple of questions on the Nav system.

1) Will any other third party CD's such as Garmin work with this system???

2) Is there a simple way to eliminate the first pop up screen when you start the car. I have to hit enter every time to remove the first screen in order to use the system and find it anoying.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but 1) Not that I've ever heard and 2) No, but common complaint

Welcome to the org - also check out Max-World

NAV and aftermarket Stereo

Has anyone successfully swapped the stock bose head unit with an aftermarket one? Do you need to purchase any special components to allow the nav system to fade the front speakers when instructions are given? Anyone have pics?

Just figured I'd give you all an update. I was able to successfully burn a backup copy (for personal use, of course) of my NAVI cd this weekend. It worked perfectly! Hopefully this clarifies any confusion.

Mine plays my "backup disc" (MCA-8) and audio cds that I burnded perfectly fine!

Does anyone have whichever disc it is that covers NY/CT??

So, if I was to drive from Philly/NJ (where I live) to CT... you are telling me that it is a real pain in the a$$ to use the navi?!?! That sucks!

kloogy, it's been a while since I've asked and I tried to do a little searching, but have you been able to integrate the dvd in yet? Has the IRS been nicer to you lately?

Just let me know! Thanks!

Coming off 5800 bucks worth of work to get my car back up, a lot of it out of my own pocket, it has been delayed. I have spoken to 3 different sources, one being maximadave, and everyone says it can be done. My next step is to add subs , 2 headrests TV's and the DVD player, which will be tapped into the stock screen. All sources say YES on this.. We just need a wiring diagram for our Navi. If someone can get this, its a go !

I can't wait... It's been a long time coming... keep me posted!

Hopefully nissan will release an upgrade system where you can swap out the physical unit with a DVD system, which can use 1 DVD disc and play DVDs as well... for a reasonable price.
