00 maxima vs 03 GTi 1.8T

my friend just recently got a 2003 GTi 1.8T.. it is running 180 hp at like 175 lbs of torque... also his turbo kicks in about 2000 rmps... we really didn't get a chance to race yet because he is still breaking in his engine.. we keep talking about who is gonna win but we really don't know... his car is stick but my is a 00 maxima se auto... so just wondering on the org's opinion about this.. thanks..

quick spool up means small turbo. MAX will take it.

The GTI will beat you.

It ain't that small, because it puts out 11.8psi. I should know, my wife has one!

5 Spd GTI's are running consistant 15.0's-15.4 and some even brake into the 14's. I have not seen auto max's running consistantly in that range.

If you were a 5-spd, I'd say Max. But an Auto 2k Maxima will lose against a 5-spd 2k3 GTI. The Auto 2k-2k1 Maxes simply aren't that fast.

uh...okay.
Is this race from a light or is it a highway race. If it's from a light you better work on your Brake torqueing(or is it torque braking?) and your power shifting of your auto.

i would have to go with the GTi on this one. get an intake and y-pipe and then run again, you should take him, assuming he hasnt done any significant mods by then. what do you guys think about the
VR-6's by buddy has one and i have ridden in it a few times, its seems nice. its a 5speed. his is a 95 though. are the older vr6's as quick as the newer 1.8T?

I think a 2k auto no mods doesn't have much chance to win unless the GTI drivers sucks, but with a Y-Pipe-Intake-Catback and manually shifting the autotragic it's another story.

Good luck

If you didn't have an auto, the Max, but in this case, the GTI. Now numbers for a chipped GTI alone with no other mods are 210 hp @ 5,800 rpm / torque: 245 lb. ft. @ 2,200-4,200 rpm . Throw in a downpipe, cold air intake and exhaust, those things will rip you a you know what!

I have a 1.8T GTI. I think it will be pretty close, but your Max should inch out front. They are quick out of first. I think you will take him by a small margine if he is just stock.

if your friend shifts @ redline on the highway u'll have a better chance, boost cuts off a little at 5500rpm on those.

I agree. I know my 2k auto maxima can only run at least 15.7 stock.

This thread makes me feel better about getting a new 6 speed Golf GTI VR6(24V) even thought I wanted a 2K2 6 speed max. O well I guess the extra 7K+ I saved from not getting the max will be modd money
