More Track Times in Mad Max
Well, I went back to the track tonight with the CAI lower tube back on. (I pulled it off a few weeks ago. See thread https://maxima.org/forums/showthread...hreadid=14337)
Guess what happened? ET's went right back to where they were before after going up about 0.2 seconds after taking the CAI lower tube off. I guess my experiment is over. The CAI works.
Overall, it was a decent night, but traction was lousy. Even my relatively low powered Max was spinning the tires on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts! 191 ft lb of torque isnt enough to do this under normal track conditions. It rained and was chilly nearly all day, so conditions werent the greatest. Ambient temps at track time were rather cool and in the mid 50's and damp.
I wasnt able to beat my best ET due to the poor traction, but came close. I did add some MPH though. Here are the results (60 ft times in parenthesis):
14.781@95.29 (2.338)
14.802@95.06 (2.297)
14.816@95.24 (2.288)
14.860@95.32 (2.387)
14.884@94.74 (2.323)
I had a few good races and batted the usual 1.000 against the Rustangs...I was 2 for 2 against em. But, a Z28 and AWD Talon gave me some free lessons in what real quarter mile cars do to lil old Maximas! The Talon looked like someone lit a fuse at about the 330 ft mark. I actually treed him and was ahead until that point. Then it was over. A BMW M3 did the same....but I think he had a few mods as he flat ran away from me like a raped ape on the top end.
All in all a good night. Im still amazed at the abuse this Max has taken! Over 100 quarter mile runs in the year Ive had it, driven daily, powershifted like a demon, and not a single problem. Now I just jinxed myself.....

As far as boost or drag radials/slicks....I think Ill leave the car alone. Of course, slicks alone would knock off quite a bit of time. But, Maximas are best at being just what they are, and that is a relatively quick and fast 4 door meant for primarily cruising. This car has seen enough abuse for its lifetime and probably wont see much more 1/4 mile action for awhile. Well, until someone passes the 5th gen N/A 14.75 mark anyway

Ill leave all the boostin and NOS duties to 4SFED
Hes meant for that kinda stuff
Re: Re: Time for boost!
True enough. Beat the hell out of your GLH and use the Max for cruising.

WOW! Pretty inpresive times! Yeah those Talons are really quick, plus they have the advantage of AWD! My friend has one and he does some crazy launches off the line, I think he launches at like 5500 RPM and still have minimal wheel spin! Only if our Max's were RWD, I think we would do much better.
