Brakes on the 2K2 Maxima SE

Hey everybody,

I have a 2K2 SE, and my brakes are acting really weird. Every time I leave my car for a few hours, whenever I get it and drive it, the brakes grind REALLY badly on my first stop. Like when I pull my car out of my driveway and stop at the first stopsign in my neighborhood, without fail the brakes will grind terribly, but it only does this that one time, until I get out of the car and drive it again the next time. What could the problem be?? Should I take it to the dealer?

Thanks,
Lloyd

I have the same problem. It will get worse. I have to take my car in. Ever since I put my 19's on now the entire front end makes a grinding noise, as I come to a stop.... some much for Japanese quality....

Good to see im not the only one. Maybe they will replace them or do a recall on their brakes. The other thing I noticed is that when I'm going really fast, like in the high 90s, the brakes make a LOT of noise when I slow down. I know its a lot of heat and pressure on the brakes, but I don't know if that is normal or not either.

You will probably haveto replace your rotors with aftermarket, don't fret many of us org members have already done so. Good luck repairing all of the problems that Nissan has yet to take care of on your $30K car.

Are you sure its not just alittle rust after some morning moisture? they flash rust in minutes.

If you're really having grinding, metal on metal, you might see gouging on the rotor. Might be worth looking, because you might have a caliper problem.

Aside from that, mine are like that after anytime its been foggy or raining. Or I washed the car.

brake grind

Mine do not do this and I've had my car for 10 months. Someone previously posted that wheels that are on too tight can cause problems so you might want to check for that. Chances are you live in a higher humidity area than I (northern california) so I would really check the rotors before you drive and see if there is signs of rusting.

Re: brake grind

DITTO. Sounds like rust to me! Why? Cuz it only happens on first stop after sitting. That's the rust coming off. Happens all the time after car sits for a while, or if they're really wet like after going through a no-touch car wash. Ever had disc brakes before? This is common across most disc brakes. Could be something else of course, but I'd bet it's rust.

I don't think it is rust. I've had disk brakes on cars probably longer than some of you guys have been around, and I agree you do get surface rust from leaving it out overnight or washing, but it never makes a grinding noise. Instead of trying to figure out whats wrong, bring it back to Nissan and let them worry about it, especially if it's under warranty.

Oh my ****** GOD..

Yet another problem posted on the ORG that i also have..

Guess what happens when you go to NISSAN!!!

you get the ever famous.. COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM!!! HAHAHA

I am going to live with all my problems with my 2k2.. and its funny because this grinding thing started a few weeks ago..

God if my 2k2 didn't have 255hp, i would trade it in for another protege again..

Its a quirk, and i am hoping later in my life time if i can afford 4piston stillen brakes, it will cure this total BS by NISSAN..
