accident!!

so last night, i was on my way to dinner with a friend of mine, when we came to a stop sign with a uhaul van in front of me. i guess he thought he pulled out too far, because without looking, he just backs right into me! my grille was smashed, and i noticed the hood was loose afterwards. we just exchanged information, and didn't call the cops. there were no other cars around. my question is, will i be able to make a claim to uhaul or will they just be complete a-holes about (my guess is that they'll just counter that i rear ended their van)? any thought of advice, much appreciated.

That sucks. I rented a U-Haul truck a while ago and insurance is an additional option one must pay for. If you hit something in one of those trucks, you pretty much win every time. As for the vans and pickups, I'm not sure. I don't think that U-Haul is in any way responsible for the guy hitting you. I'm pretty sure that you would have to contact his insurance company about the accident.
Good Luck.

yeah without proof, you'll probably have to get him to 'pay up'.

yeah, i know for the future i guess. i've never been in an accident before, so i just didn't know how to proceed with this sort of thing. i'm going to take it to the dealer and see what they estimate for repair.

thanx for your responses!

I don't know what other states do, but in Oregon if there is no injury and damage is under a certain amount (not sure how much), you don't need an accident report. The damage you mentioned sounds like quite a bit (over 1k). I would do an accident report. Your insurance agent could advise you how to proceed. They are there to help you (that's why you pay premiums) and it wasn't your fault.
