Yeah, it looks retarded on the basis of the description. Didn't someone have problems with the Valet key not working? The TSB decription could mean that only the keys with chips embedded in them will work, which explains that valet keys might not work...

Doesn't the Valet key have a chip in it also? I thought the only thing it couldn't do was open the glove compartment and trunk.

Ya they have chips... how else would the valet's park your car.. push it??

Btw.. i was toying with the idea of making a "chipless" copy of my key... Why you ask??

Well, I always used to carry around a spare copy of my Buick Car Key in my wallet.. Why?? in case I get locked out. Sticking the Maxima key in your wallet is a bad idea (cuz of the plastic part, and it's sorta long)!!.. I figure if I could make a smaller key, just for the door, i'd be set..

(actually, it's not that hard to get yourself locked out of your maxima.. I nearly did it one day, when I went to go close the garage door.. Turns out that you are able to accidentally lock the car with the bottom of your hand, when you go to open the door from the inside (check it out, and you'll see what i mean).. good thing I had the other doors open, or I would've had to run into the house for another set of keys!!!)..

no, its not a retarded TSB...

the problem is the key can 'un-register' itself and leave you stranded. they are simply taking the blame off of themselves with the wording IMO.

i went to a dealer to make a copy of my car key..
the key cost me freaking $100 from the dealership..
man...what's happening these days?
i mean, i know there's a chip and the key is made out of titanium....
but copying keys used to cost dollars...not 100 dollars..

anywayz...don't be stupid like me and lose ur keys..
keep them in the safe place!!

Re: no, its not a retarded TSB...

There you go.. that's exactly it...

Don't expose your key to any strong EM fields, or it may stop working.. (watch out for magnets!!!.. ie.. dont' swipe it over those anti-theft pads @ your local store... or your taking a taxi home!!)

The wording of this advisory allows for your key to stop working (it's within specifications :-)

Dude, I'm totally down with this idea. I'd like to use my valet key and keep a chipless copy of my regular key in my wallet or with my house keys. This way I can leave the valet with the valet key (without have to carry two of those big *** keys around!) and have a key to open the trunk & glove should I need to lock it.

Problem is, I haven't been able to find anyone with a blank! (Since it needs a chip, they don't seem to stock them and sending me to the dealer).

Let me know if you have any luck finding one coz I really want a flat, chipless key!
