Anyone using Michelin XGT Z4 tires in the snow?
Anyone using Michelin XGT Z4 tires in the snow?
Has anybody used the Michelin XGT Z4 tires (225/50/17) in a snowy area? Can you comment on how these did in slippery weather and long these tires will typically last? They are on sale at Sears this week.
The Sears rep said these do quit well in the snow and will last longer than the Pilot A/S tires. I would just like to hear from somebody who has experience with these tires.
I realize that the Michelin Pilot A/S are probably the "best". However, the thought of spending $1000 for tires that are only going to last 35-40K miles is a bit frightening.
Thank you!
P.S. I hope it doesn't snow before I can get rid of the stock Potenza'a, they are just awful in Minnesota winters.

Check out Tire Rack's survey results for each...the XGT only got a '6' for snow while the Pilots got an '8'.
If you are in Minn. you need winter tires. Get the XGTs and the money you save you put on true winters, on steel wheels. There are no if-and-or-buts about it. 225's have no place in winter driving. The prefered winter size is 205/65/15.
I had Pilot XGT-Z4's on my previous Max in Chicago winters. I put 35K miles on them and they were very good in the winter. Much less slip than the stock tires. I currently have Pilot A/S' on my '02 Maxima, but we have not had any snow...yet. The A/S' are supposed to have a higher tread wear rating than the XGT. My XGT's lasted a lot longer than the stock Bridgestones did.
Thanks for the replies. It turns out that the Michelin XGT Z4's aren't available anymore in 225/50/17.
That leave me to decide between...
1) spending $1000 every 35K miles on Michelin Pilot A/S tires.
2) buying new 16" rims in a size that has a better selection of all-season tires.
I really like the look of the stock 17" rims, but that option isn't looking too good right now.
Can anybody advise me on what a similar looking set of 16" rims for a 2000 SE
would cost? Any specific recommendations?
Thanks!
