Same with the 5 speed manual.

5th gear is WAY too tall for 80+mph, but hopefully when I have the clutch replaced I'll be able to help that.

Sorry to tell ya, but most likely it was YOUR valet, NOT just some "freak".

I used to valet(I NEVER DID THIS!) and crap like that happened EVERY DAY like it was normal. Some punk valets would gather $20-$40/day just in ashtray change!!!! Candy and gum was "fair" game too.

I couldn't believe the kind of crap that happened, so I NEVER valet.

I would like...

1. A decent automatic transmission
2. Interior trim that doesn't creak
3. A fuel filler splash guard that I don't have to pay for (**** Nissan for its shi**y design.)
4. A car that doesn't have 90 different TSBs
5. Good paint

and above all:

Good service departments!

Nissan is sorely lacking those.

More thoughtful design

Here are some things poorly thought out that bug me all the time. I think the engineers should spend more time actually making the car easy to use. No need to mention that I still love the car, given it's a short list and I'm being really picky, but being an engineer myself I cannot help wondering: what were those yahoos thinking when they designed it.

1. Seat position memory should include outside mirrors. They must be adjusted anyway whenever the seat position is changed, which could take a while to get it right - and yes, I actually use this feature all the time since I share the car with my wife who is much shorter than I am. Why did they put this half-baked feature in the car at all - more to advertise?

2. Headlights should actually turn off when you get out and lock the car - immediately. What's with the almost 1-minute delay?

3. Alarm should have a shock sensor - you can break a window and get in no problem.

4. There is a way to roll up windows with a key, in case you already got out of the car and forgot to roll them up. This should also close the sunroof if you have it.

1) I'm taking it that you've owned other more "expensive" cars before because I've never heard or seen this ability available. You change your seating position, you change your side mirrors position. They go hand-in-hand.

2) If I'm not mistaken, the 1-minute delay for the headlights after you shut off your car is to possibly light up the path to your driveway and front door with just enough time to get into your house. Its a safety/comfort feature that works along with outside houselights. Why they added this feature when some people don't have driveways, your guess is as good as mine, but it works just the same on my sister's Avalon.

3) Go aftermarket...a kid I knew back in h.s had the viper alarm and anytime anyone parked or so much as walk by within 10 ft, the thing went off. He PO'd alot of people too.

4) I don't know about anyone else, but whenever I leave my car, no matter how short of a time, how hot it is, or how nice of a neighborhood it is, I NEVER shut off my car W/O rolling up the windows/closing the sunroof 1st. It's just common sense. Sure, the feature's nice, but my take is it sets bad habits in the long run.

I work for a technology company that has alot of engineers, and the things that these guys come up with at times feels like it comes straight out of a Dilbert comic strip (no pun intended. Of course, being in the I.T dept, we do find ourselves occasionaly talking about the engineers saying "What were those Yahoos thinking when they designed that device??" Oh well, I guess its universal.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

4-wheel steering for low-speed maneuvering since Nissan can't figure out how to make a front-drive car with a decent turning radius. My wife razzes me every time we drive because her big-a$$ expedition can make a u-turn 15 feet inside my Max's turning radius.

Being in the SE department, I could make some comments about the IT departments but I won't.

As for #2, that's adjustable by the dealer. You can shorten it or even have it go off immediately I think.
#3, buy a $10 shock sensor and wire it tot he factory alarm yourself. Though I have to agree that it was pretty lame on Nissan's part to leave out such an inexpensive and in my opinion neccessary part.

One thing... hrm...

1) Not-So-Sensitive MAF Sensors
2) A BOSE system worthy of carrying the BOSE name
3) A HU that actually works
4) All windows auto-up/auto-down by default (it can be done aftermarket)
5) CD Player to support MP3 discs
6) Navigation system to be DVD based
7) Navigation system to support RCA/SVideo inputs
8) All HU to have RCA ins/outs with "Aux" function
9) A hood that doesn't wobble at high speeds
10) A service department that actually fixes stuff instead of saying it's not covered
11) Shock sensor on factory alarm
12) No hesitation from drive-by-wire system
13) Supercharger/Turbo option
14) Aftermarket parts support
15) Red & Clear Lenses on Chrome tails
16) Rear A/C Vents
17) Use of standard light bulbs for instrument clusters, etc (so we can change the color)
18) RSB Standard
19) A turning radius smaller than that of a school bus

21) Backwards compability of newer parts
22) AWD

Finally! Someone said it...power seat memory should include the mirrors. My expedition even set the seats and mirrors by remote. If my wife used her remote to unlock the doors, the seats and mirrors would automatically set for her and vice versa. Talk about handy...I was pizzed when I realized my max didn't even let me set the mirrors...what a pain...

I may have an SE, but.......

The biggest thing I wish it has were a few of the options in the Meridian Package (e.g. Heated Mirrors, Heated Steering Wheel) without having to buy the leather package. My '94 had heated mirrors and still had cloth seats.

- LSD for the automatic trans
- Better Tranny programming
- Better paint quality
- Better insulation from road and wind noise
- Better theft deterrence measures (especially for the HIDs)

really overly simplified........

aftr thinking about it i just want a car that's worthy of the "flagship" title. i mean, there's no reason my door things should rattle when i have my music on. there's no reason why the seats should be uncomfortable. there's no reason that the paint should chip, etc. GIVE ME A CAR WORTHY OF THE TITLE....please. keep the performance value, but do a lil more work on the quality control front. that's all.

It's been said in various ways, but on my short list of reasonable Max improvements....I'd like all the windows AND sunroof to be closed/opened with the keyfob. When I hit lock, I want that whole baby closed up!

That would be a sweet rewire mod. Figure it out and you could be a pioneer.

Well, I've been pondering this for a while, and I don't think the rear's would be that simple. You'd have to add the controllers for it. It would be easy for a alarm shop to do though. I just want it standard.

No Way - Realistic - Should Have

No Way Possible: I wish I had more equity in my 2k2 so I don't lose my a** when I trade it for a G-35 Coupe in a few months.

Realistically looking for: A sponsor.

Should have had from the factory: A real SE that handles better and shifts more firm as compared to the other models.

The rest I can deal with . . .

All wheel drive, a strong 6 spd manual, stock twinturbos (don't care about boost, I can fix that), and a dealership that wont give me a hard time about mods!
