Re: Best size tires for 2k1 SE rims?
The stock tires for 2k/2k1 is 225/50-17's. if you want to stay stock then this is the size to get. the other choice is 235/50-17's, it will fit stock rims and it's in spec for a 17x7inch size rim(stock).
As for potenza's, most .org members would suggest that you don't buy em. they don't seem to handle well on wet/snow surfaces. i recently bought Michelin's Pilot Sports A/S 225/50-17's from Sears and i love them. other members have them to and gave great reviews.
PS A/S's aren't cheap, about $200/ea but i'm glad i went ahead and took the hit in the wallet for them. money well spent! you could try Costco if one is in your area, they will be cheaper out the door than Sears because extra's are included in price of tire. but if you need/want an alignment, then you would have to get that somewhere else.
i'd say go with the Pilot's if this is going to be an all year round tire. there is other choices but get the Pilot's.........
Hope this helped

Nitto NT450.. Dont even think about it!!
It's simply a waste of money if you buy the NT450! I had them for only 3 months and finally decided to get rid of them. Terrible wet traction (basically no traction in rain)and not so good dry traction either. Also, the sidewall is very soft too. It will squeal like a guinea pig once you start pushing it towards the limit. In my opinion, the "Extreme Performance" as stated on the sidewall is way overated! I dont even think it can be classified as performance tires.
I have Potenza S03 (225/45ZR17) tires on my stock rims now and it's a day and nite difference. The limit on these tires are so high! You can hardly get your car spinned out of control unless you are really really crazy! Plus they are less expensive than Michelin Pilot A/S (mine costs only $155/each, comparing to $180-200 for the Michelin Pilot).
No doubt if you are opting for the same-size tire (225/50R17), the Pilot A/S should be the best choice. But if you don't mind going 1 profile lower (to 45 series), Potenza S03 is definitely an excellent choice.
I check on Potenza web site that 225/45R17 can safely fit onto our stock 17x7" rims. Our rims just barely fit the requirement.

2. For a nice look, good ride characteristics, and decent handling I would think about going with a 225 55R17. Slightly taller sidewall, better rough road ride, fills up the wheel well a bit better, and often can be found for around $100.00 a tire. I personally went with Yokohama YK420's and have had good luck with them for a little over $400.00 for the set.

There's also the other Pilot, the MXM4s which
I have on my car...slighly softer-riding than the Pilot A/S, not as flat-out sporty, more a Grand Touring tire...still V-rated and about 25 bucks cheaper each than the A/S.
They are very wide for their rated section width (225)...so if you're not interested in flat-our performance you could go down to 215/50 and save a few more bucks and they will still fit the rims perfectly.
Whatever u do, dont do the Potenzas...these MXMs will change your ride like u would not believe...

Maxman, I presume ur asking me...no, no picscis
one of thse days I will succumb to technology & get me a digicam...
The 225/50 MXMs have a 9.6" tread width -about four-tenths of an inch wider than the Potenzas- coupled with a noticeably rounded sidewall and no rim protectors so it just looks a bit large on the rim as the sidewall curves out a bit more than the Potenzas.
I guess that rounded sidewall is one of the reasons they ride so well -as well as why the A/Ss will surely outpeform them on a road course, slalom, etc.
