I cut up some vinyl tubing and planned on wrapping the top and bottom coils on my springs because of noise problems, but even with the car jacked up all the way, there is no way to do it. The top and bottom are both firmly pressed against the strut base and the rubber top mount.

Do I need a spring compressor to do this? So, basically, I would have to compress the spring while it is on the car and wrap it while it's compressed, right?

Yeah, you might be able to do this if you leave the strut in place and just compress the heck out of the spring. There is no way in the world you can do this whithout the compressors.

 

Actually you don't want to put them on while the spring is compressed.

Putting them on when the springs are in the car is no problem. Just jack up the car so the spring decompresses as much as it can. That way you have all the coils seperated and it's very easy to apply any type of isolation to them.

You want the spring to be as open or decompressed as you can get it. If you compress it, you will have coils on top of each other and you'll never get isolation sleves around them.
