Removing cross-bar for exhaust?
I just installed my Cattman Cat-Back and found that it rubs against the front cross bar - not the cheesy sheet-metal one (which the bolts broke off of anyways, so I don't have it), but the heavier-duty bar closer to the cat. Has anyone removed this? What purpose does it serve? Brian says no purpose, and to just remove it... any other solutions?
There have been a million threads about removing the bar.. One sollution is putting washers before the bolts. That will lower it maybe like 1/2" which should clear it. Another thing is that it shouldn't be hitting at all. May sure that the y--pipe is aligned 180 degress with the catback. Mines used to be angled and hit my crossbar all the time. I had a shop heat up the y-pipe and bend it up.
Some ppl say that the cross-member since it's made so rigid and it pretty heavy and big, it may be used as like a strut bar or something for that part of the car. If it's purpose to hold the pipe incase it drops then why not just put some flimsy piece of metal bracket like the one in the back.
