Move Strut to Align ??

I had my car's alignment done today. The dealer told me he had to unbolt and move the strut to adjust the chamber. Said the Maxima design does not normally call for a chamber or caster alignment, only a toe correction. He ended up moving the strut bolt all the way to the back of it's opening and said there is no room for any future adjustment of the strut if the chamber needs more work. He also asked if my car had been hit, since that is normally the only time he's ever had to move the strut. Since I bought the car used I have no way of knowing if it's been in an accident previously. It's in spec now, but I'm worried. Do I need to be? Thanks, Chuck

Camber (not chamber) and caster are not adjustable but bolt holes are slightly oversize to help installation. They simply took advantage of that fact.

You don't need to be worried about it, just stay away from pot-holes and curbs.

Sorry about the spelling. But if the car has been in an accident and there is no more room in the bolt hole, I'm dead if I accidentlly hit another pot hole.

You dont know for sure it's been hit. Relax, some cars camber readings are dead on and some aren't. Could even be the strut thats to blame. There's always room for adjustment, you could just use camber bolts or even dremmel the strut holes slightly bigger. No big deal, if the dealer has your front end set within specs, there's nothing wrong with your car.

i hit a curb recently, and had to bring my car in for wheels alignment.. but they cannot align the caster it says it is 0.2 deg on the left, and 2.5 on the right... i think the left one is way too small! any idea on how to align it? it really sucks to hold the steering wheel turned right all the time (and using force to do it)

Caster or camber?

Anyway, you bent something when you hit the curb. Have you had the suspension checked out?
