Dumb question about rubber
Dumb question about rubber
Alright i'm going to ask a dumb question. I looked over the FAQ-U and couldn't really find an answer.
When you read specs for tires you're usually given a number something like this:
235/40-18
What does all this mean. I'm assuming the last digit is the size the tire (i.e. the example i stated would be for an 18" rim). So what does the rest mean.
I'm looking around at getting some new wheels, and i want a decent set of tires. Nothing real high performance, just something for some 18x8's that give decent tread life, and serviceable performance under regular driving conditions. Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance.

40 is the percentage of the width that results in the sidewall height (so 40% of 235 = 94mm)
18 is the inner diameter of the rim in inches (the size of the rim you can mount the tire on)
