FST from Southwestautoworks doesnt fit

I just installed my FST and when my car is in park and Drive its fine, but as soon as I put my car in Reverse the engine as you all know shifts a little and the part where the throttle body is connected to the engine touches the FST and makes an annoying noise. Did anybody else experience that?
Also does the FST influence your allignment at all, because since I installed it my car seems to be pulling to the left a little?

FST?

It's not going to effect your alignment, it just stiffens up your chassis.

I installed one of Custom Maxima's early FSTB for a '02 and have the same problem with my 6 speed. I had to grind away some material and prop up the mounting points with some stainless steel washers raising the bar up a little. Now it only bangs in reverse if I step on the gas hard and then suddenly let up. This makes the engine rock in it's mounts the most. Maybe I need some polyurathane motor mounts.... Hope this helps.

That is exactly what I was thinking putting some thick washers where the screws go and hope that it will clear and not touch my hood.
Whey cant these companies run some tests on these FSB before selling them it seems they just make them in large quantities and as long as they kinda fit and sell they dont care. The quality should come before quantity.

Ya, I know, in Greg's defense (Custom Maxima), he pulled the '02's as soon as he found out there was a problem and offered a refund for those who wanted it. I didn't want to wait, so I "massaged" it to make it work.

Larrio: Cute baby. Reminds me of my son, but that was like 16 years ago Now, no more toy cars, only the real stuff... a SR20 powered Silvia. And I thought infant toys were expensive.

Thanks, that's my half brother at 7 months old. i'm always surprised at the age diversity of org members. Your son is only a couple of years younger than me.

Hey firepwr, did that pic help?

No, I'm not giving it to him. He saved up his money and is paying for it himself. He shows enough knowledge about cars and especially the Silvia, that I trust him with the swap (with my help). BTW, all this has a string attached, he has to keep a 3.7 GPA. Nothing is for free .

Alex from southwestautoworks will refund my purchase. He also said that its only the SE models that seem to have this problem. Well bye bye FSTB.

I dont think I really want to shave anything on my engine just for warranty reasons. You know that the Nissan dealership will use anything against you not to cover the warranty work. Well I'll try doing what I originally planned to do which is put thick washers between the bar and the screw and see if that maybee works. Worse comes to worse I'll just return it

Well, we tested the bars on the 2ks, 2k1s, 2k2...didn't think to test fit on an SE model (Didn't figure it would be a problem). The 2k2 we test fit the original on was a GXE (I think), and it fit without a problem....

hey guys, i just got mine in today, well when your getting a bar for 38 dollars shipped to your front door, you shouldnt expect a perfect product. I wanted to see how close it was to the intake manifold so i pur it on and clunk clunk clunk, not good...

so i went to the trusty home depot =] and got me 12 3/8" washers, 2 for every bolt. Clears perfectly andno cluink in reverse or drive, hood functions normally. 6 cents for a washer.

better than spending 150 for stealin!

I would suggest buy it from alex,(southwest) ur not gonna find a better deal

alex also offered a full refund if it didnt fit, what a nice guy

Im not even gonna argue with that, the price is great and the fact that he offered a refund shows that he actually cares about his customers unlike other companies SARONA!!! cough cough cough. I will e mail alex to get those washers, since Im too lazy to go to home depot.

About OBX FSTB

I have been looking for a FSTB as well. I saw a lot of fitting problems for the 2K2 Maxima.

Recently, I found the OBX FSTB from ebay. Looks like it has a flat alumium bar rather than the round tube.

http://www.obxracingsports.com/

Do you think that will solve the engine touching problem?

You might try rotating the bar so the clearance to the manafold is increased.

Ordered mine from SWA on a Friday, received it on the following Wednesday, went to Home Depot, got 12 SS 3/8" washers, waited for the rain to stop {never did}, and installed it in 10 minutes or so. Good fit with no bumps, grinds or hood problems. It does seem to make an positive, appreciable difference in how the cars handles.
