An Introduction & Questions

I would like to introduce myself to the board here as a new Maxima owner. I have been looking around for the right deal and I couldn't pass up on a 2001 5-spd Sterling Mist SE with black leather interior, BOSE system, sunroof, and climate controls.

I have been reading this board for about 10 days now and I have to say I am very impressed with the amount of knowledge present. I think one can learn anything he/she ever needed to know about a Maxima by reading this message board and soliciting advice from its users. That is partly why I am posting today.

Here is the deal...

I love everything about my car so far except for 3 annoying issues. After researching some possible fixes, I found all three are covered by technical service bulletins and since my car is still under factory warranty I want to see what I can do for free.

The three problems/issues/TSB are wind noise in the rear glass run rubber (NTB01-029), fuel-cut (NTB01-018A), and the ever-popular BOSE rear deck rattle (NTB01-051A).

Here is what I need help with...

(1) What strategy should I use when asking the Nissan repair folks about these things like should I just show them the printouts of the TSBs?
(2) I want to get all these things done soon but I don't wanna make enemies with the service dept. Should I do all three repairs at once or does anyone have a better idea?
(3) I live in the Dallas area close to Addison but work in Richardson literally a half-mile from Courtesy Nissan where I see many people on here have ordered their FSTB from. I assume this might mean they have a decent amount of knowledge with the Max. Is this the best dealership service dept around or does anyone have a better one in the area? Any guy specifically I should talk to that is known for good work and tell them ya sent me?

I hope everyone is ready to hear from me some more because after I get the above things mentioned done, I will be looking to upgrade/add a few things. I basically want to keep my car mostly stock but it never hurts to build on what I feel is basically a wonderful automobile.

Thanks for any help on these questions and once again, hello Maxima.org.

First of all congratulations on the purchase and welcome aboard the .Org

As for your problem, just make sure you print out the TSB's and have it handy when you go in for the service. Nissan dealerships are very unpredictable. Some have awesome service while others, well... you don't even want to touch it with a 100 mile pole (if ever there is one).

You shouldn't make any enemies with the service department, in my case i've made a friend in my service advisor and the tech's and have mutual respect for each other. If you're worried try calling up in advance and have your VIN checked to see if previous TSB's have been applied or not. Additionally, just be cool with them and chances are they'll be cool with you.

Yes, welcome. I too have been impressed with some of the members' postings. Other boards have a lot of CRAP and no meat.

I've had good experiences with Grubbs in Bedford...can't say much about the Dallas area though...

Welcome again!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Maxima ownership! I'm still a Maxima Noob only having my car since July 5th.
I am a service advisor at a Nissan dealership and can't speak for others but I don't see any reason why the repair shop you choose would be upset at your request. Approach them that you just recently bought the car, experienced a few problems, researched them and found some TSB's that may relate and you would like to have them checked out.
Good luck with your car and hope you find a good dealership... unfortunately it seems we have alot of work to do winning back the customers' confidence.

Regards,
Lonz

Welcome to the fold due

Nahh, dont worry man. Just either have the TSB number, or a copy of the TSB handy like others have said. I have had 4 TSB's done to my 2kmax with very few questions asked. They've seen hundreds of us max owners doing the exact same thing...Nissan does pay them somehow for the work too...so its not like they are doing it free.

Enjoy the ride!

Wow, a noob that we don't have to show the <search> feature to!

Welcome aboard. I would imagine it'll be easier for them to just get all three TSBs out of the way at once. Call ahead and tell them about the TSBs when you schedule, and bring copies with you when you drop it off, just in case.
