different transmissions

Is it possible to swap our current four speed automatic transmissions with the newer five speed ones?
If so are there any performance and gas mileage gains?

How about the new CVT transmissions?
Do they perform like automatics as far as acceleration or do they perform like manuals? Will manuals still post a faster acceleration time than the CVTs? Or will CVTs give you the performance of a manual without having to shift?

it is possible, many have done it. u will get about 30hp back for an NA Maxima. Fuel economy? depends on how you drive.

for more info, read Maxima.org's faq. u can find the differences between manual and auto in detail.

I think he's talking about a 5 spd auto, not a 5 spd manual. The gearing would be different in a 5 spd auto and might let you stay closer to the power band. I don't think it would beat a manual because of slippage. Don't if they could be swapped or not. Generally, most things like this are possible with enough $$$$. Have no idea about CVT.

I think the original poster meant to ask if we could swap out our 4-speed autos for a 5-speed auto or a CVT transmission. Not swap to a manual - which has been done by a lot of people.

I'd personally love to have the CVT tranny from the new Murano in my maxima. Just wondering if it would be possible...
