Tiny Rust spots on Sterling Mist/Sheer Silver

I don't know if anyone's brought this up yet, but have any of you Sterling Mist or Sheer Silver owners found small tiny rust spots on your max's? Since I bought the car back in September, I've only waxed it once (I know, I'm neglecting the car ) but with under 2000 miles, this shouldn't be happening. And its not like the rust spots are in low areas of the car like paint chips would be on the front bumper or quarter panels, their actually higher on the doors and roof.

I remember my 01 Silver Altima having similar small tiny rust spots, but never had paint chips, which I why I bought another Silver colored car. I know Nissan's warrantee does cover rusting, so this will be addressed soon, but I figured I'd ask if anyone else was having these problems?

Maybe it's from the fallout. If you live by factories, or even by the airport or in a valley, then it's likely that the fallout from the air is oxidzing on your car. Are the spots in thr form of tiny speckles? If so, try using a Mother's Clay Bar kit on your car and that should take the rust off. If it doesn't then post back.

Hmmm.......I bought the mother's clay bar, but didn't get to use it yet. I never thought about the fallout as being an issue, but you might have a point there. There are planes that fly over my building parking lot where I work. I'll try it out.

Clay bar is the answer

The clay bar will take care of it. The rust is from tiny metal particles stuck in the clearcoat. (rail dust, industrial fallout etc) Doesn't matter how old/new your car is.

It really freaked me out when I saw rust spots appearing on the PLASTIC lower parts of my previous white car!! (93 Accord) It's a good idea to clay bar a newer car, too..to remove the contaminants before they start to oxidize.

Oh yeah, do these rust spots appear on other colors besides the silvers? Anyone with the Titanium or Sunlit sand colors see them?

Not sure. Before I knew about clay bars (and the org) I'd just use Nu-Finish a couple times a year on the Accord. It removed the rust with a LOT of rubbing, but it always came back. My guess is that the abrasive in the Nu-Finish took the oxidation off, but didn't remove the particles On my Max, it's a clay bar and Klasse.

I get those tiny spots on my Sterling Mist car but they are tiny chips that have rusted over.

Get some touch-up paint.

I think brake dust can be a problem too. My sister-in-law's silver Integra had tiny spots on the lower front fenders.

VQPowerSE: I also own a 2003 maxima in sheer silver. I (...so far) don't see any rust spots yet. (knock-on-wood) I've only owned the car since last month so. Where does the rust spots start to form at?....I'll keep a look out for rust spots though.

Well, here's what I'm trying to get at. If its a rust spot, then under warrantee, Nissan's responsible for it. But if its a paint chip, Nissan doesn't give a crap. If its a paint chip that rusts on a car, the question then becomes whether its also noticeable on all other colors as well??

I haven't seen any posts about black, white, majestic blue, or grey lustre max's having rust spots, just paint chips. And as far as I know and read (and I could be wrong) none of their chips have rusted over.....yet.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is if there's a paint flaw with Silver Max's that results in rusting not involving chips, I think we should all be entitled to a new paint job!

Yeah I know, don't hold my breath, blah, blah, blah.......

I'll try to get some pics so I can post. I could be wrong in my view of them, but they look like rust spots to me. (hopefully I can keep this thread going long enuff) I've seen a couple along the roof and front doors, right below the window. They're tiny, about an inch to half an inch wide.
