I just said it interesting since alot of others have never hit 100s and emax with all his mods did not hit 100+ until just recently, but then again he is pushing 13.8 times.

He is also running 18's, and I am running lightweight 17's. They are 10#'s lighter per wheel than stock, and I'm still running the stock blowtenzas.

Well my best with my 18's was 100.46 MPH I think. My 18's are light though at 20 lb's. I actually hit my best trap speed with my heavier oem 17's, I got a 101.7 MPH trap. The 101.7 MPH was on a 14.2 second run with a 2.45 60'

BTW congrats on the 100 MPH trap, that's awesome.

 

So your new rims are 14lbs/ea? Stock are 24lbs/ea Whoa what type are they?

 

Thanks for all the compliments, I'm really happy with the way it ran last night. My rims are "Katana destiny", and the stock wheels weighed 26#ewach. I know cause I had to weigh them to ship them. I'll post the time slip soon.

I agree, If you drive it like grandma during the learning process (or as others call it break-in) you are only teaching it how to run like well grandma is driving it.

Drive it like you stole it, then trade it when the warranty is up!!!!

Kinda sad that all these mods on a 2K will HOPEFULLY match a stock 2K2. I'm still ****ed off that Justin pulled on me with all of my mods. And to add insult to injury, he had a stroller in the trunk too.

I need to trade this thing in.

 

Ok, I'm about to buy the 2003 Max SE, and I was planning on babying it for the first 1500-2000 miles simply because I heard that it would prolong the life of the engine (I plan on keeping the car for a while, at least way beyond the warranty expiration). However, I'm in the same boat as you guys, as I want to jump on it right away. Do you really think that the break-in helps, or this just "hoopla" that someone created? Will babying it help out in the long run? Have any studies been done on this? Any input would be awesome.

Honestly, i've beat the crap outta every car I've owned, and have never had any problems. My Mustang is 4 years old, and has had a ton of Nitrous rammed through it with nary a hiccup. Take my work truck for example, it's a 2000 Chevy Astro, I drive 3000-4000 miles a month in it, and leave every stoplight at WOT. I got the truck with 15 miles on it, and now it has 60k, and has never been in the shop for anything but the usual tires, and brakes. Now I detest GM products, but I have to hand it the Astro, takes my abuse every day, and likes it. I can hear her saying "is that all you got" every time I nail it

 

17" SE rims have been weighed many times by various people on the board. After doing a search most people's 17" SE rims are 24lbs. Not sure why yours are 26lbs? 2K2/2k3 rims are the same as 2k/2k1 but the center cap is smaller I think? Just an observation...

16lbs for your 17's is crazy (10lbs less than your stock/ea)! That makes a massive difference.

 

Put some lighter and smaller rims on and that will be one of your best mods for straight line racing.

 

 

A stock 2k2 rim w/ tire weighs 49lbs. My winter rims (steel 16x6.5") with 225/55/16 Michelin Artic Alpin weigh 46lbs each and my summer rims (Enkie RPM2 18x8) with 245/40/18 weigh 42lbs each. Getting them down to 39lbs per corner has to be a feat. (and yes, my scale is very accurate)

Cool. I agree. I assume a 17" tire mounted is about 25lbs.

Something is not right there. I trapped 94mph with my stock 00', and this was on a back to back run so the car was obviously hot. What were the conditions at your track and the altitude?

 

You're running 82mph in the 1/8th ?!?! Thats incredible! You race in NC right? Aren't you almost sea level? Firebird is 1300ft above. So at sea level I'd be running about 2-3 mph quicker, but I never pay attention to that stuff. What you run is what you run. My car is low on tq but it pulls like mad in 3rd and 4th gears. I ran in both lanes, and I went 99mph in both lanes, after a cool down, I went the 100.14. And the temp was only on the low 70's too. When you are running 5mph better in the 1/8th, is that on street tires? If I could launch more aggresively, I could run a little more MPH in the 1/8th.

My best MPH in the 8th was 82.38 but this slip was much better to compare because of how close our 60's are to each other. And I did that time with my stock 17's with 24 PSI in them. I live in R.I. and the track I race at is in New Hampshire "NED". It's near by the ocean so it's close to sea level. After seeing your times and looking threw all my slips it's making me fean to go back to the track! NED is closed until April 4th though

 

34 PSI I think. The winter rims had 36 and the summer ones were 38.

Hey Dave,

You just might have proven that maybe the 3.5's run better with the airbox intact. It seems like you are one of the only stock guys to break the 100mph barrier. Hey just think, with a 100shot your stock Max is going to be sniffing the pipes of your stang (not time wise, but mph in the 1/4)

I am now on a quest to break the damn 14' barrier with my car. I know I have the mph, I just need the launch! I know that day if I would have let the car sit for an hour or two that I could have maybe gotten 95+mph and a 14' time.

 

Yeah, I only ran 97mph with the "intake" that I had on, and when I put the stock airbox back on, It felt like a new car. And don't forget my buddy Dave Hill, also has a 2k2 6spd, and he went over the 100mph mark too. With the stock airbox. He's the one I got the idea from. That sux that your strip is close Ethan. The racing season is just getting going out here. Now I just need to decide what to do first, get tne Max into the 13's, ar get the Stang into the 11's
