Ok, I have to be the unluckiest guy alive. (Besides asu174)

I got a ticket today for 65 in a 55. No big deal. $41.00 fine, does not affect my insurance at all. He dropped it down from 72, which was way cool.

Anyway, my radar detector chirps, I look up and see X band. Now, whenever my X band goes off, it has ALWAYS been an alarm or something like it. So, like the complete idiot that I am, I ignore it. About 30 seconds later, my detector goes nuts, I look up and there's a trooper. He, of course, turn around.

Unreal, I get busted by freakin' X band. Just my luck that I happen to run into the last cop on the planet using X band.

Thank you for realizing that no one has worse luck than me. That totally sucks. I have the Passport 8500 and I have X and K completely turned off, so I would have been screwed too.

 

You have K turned off? Why? That's all I ever see down here in Texas. I know for a fact that we use K band here at work in Huntsville. May want to turn it back on before traveling. As for the X band. That does suck. I rarely see that! Sorry Man.

 

It's only Ka and laser here as far as I understand. K constantly goes off around supermarkets and it is really irritating. I NEVER get false alarms now, so if it goes off, I slam the brakes.

 

Yeah, asu wtf man, u need to renable K. Today I spotted a cop on Mountain view driving with Kband radar on. ALOT of cops use kband!! Have you seen any using LASER in AZ though?

 

Some DPS have laser. Ewwwwww. K sucks.

 

I slow down everytime that damned thing goes off.

Annoying, but seriously, I don't want to have to go to court AGAIN.

just today i saw a cop having the X band ...it was really weird. i almost got caught once by an X band. thank god i wasnt speeding.

you gotta watch out for cops now guys, here in MA , they got TONS of undercover cops in black tinted sables with blue plates.....in w/e american car you want. my friend saw a cop pulling over in an old body style LUMINA!!!....really scary

i just drive slow latley, espcially at night when you cant really see who is coming against you up the road.

 

This is especially true on the Mass Pike. Cops are using all sorts of American cars nowadays, so when I drive at night, I make sure to not speed too much, have a car going faster than me up ahead, and make sure a car behind me is not an American made car (sometimes I can tell by the headlights what kind of car it is).

The craziest thing that I saw was in CT. I was driving on I-84, and saw a car get pulled over, get this, by an unmarked Infiniti I30. I couldn't believe my eyes. That definitely made me quiet down on the roads.

 

I got a ticket for Careless drivning but took it to court and got it knocked down to a no points non moving violation which will not show up on my record.
tip: do not spin your tires in first and second in front of a cop is the lesson learned (although if I knew he was there...).

Why don't you try instead of turning these bands off, turn the signal counter on? The 8500 will let you do that, although it's kind of hard to read. It's the best thing I ever did, short of buing a V1 (the passport was a b-day gift from my wife)...

 

Is that the best RD on the market right now (Passport 8500 that is). How much did you guys pay for it? I've seen it advertised in Motor Trend, but it's like 300 bucks there. Any way to get it cheaper?

Given the choice, I would have spent $100 more than my wife did on the 8500 ($300) and had gotten the Valantine 1. Believe me, those arrows are worth the extra $100. The passport is pretty good, hardly prone to false alarms (my old bell went off near every cell tower. it sucked huge), but you still need to use your head; no V1 will save you if you're not using your head!

 

Do you think my insurance will go up for a "Rolling Through a Stop Sign" Ticket? Its high enough as it is, and I would hate to see it go up for almost stopping at an empty 4-way at 3 in the morning.

 

hardrivn - Next time you get pulled over for this please repeat the following:

"Officer, I apologize but I'm just learning how to drive stick." Then stall about 6 times as you pull away

 

those CT cops are nuts ... any bets to see if u could have outrun the modified i30?

the way i look @ it is this ... state cops LOVE "K" band in MA. NH and VT saties use more "Ka" then anything. ME staties, when not on their loggin trucks, use "X" band. i do see a lot of X band emitters on "the pike" and local towns... but almost every local guy uses "K" band.

rule of thumb - listen to all of them, and ignore the ones you KNOW are emitters or junk.
