technical engine question

my SES light is on. i pulled the code and got an over advanced camshaft error.

my questions are:
is this a big problem? or will i just have a rough idle?
can this problem be linked to my INJEN intake?
do you recommend me put on the stock intake if i'm taking it in for service?

thanks for your input
Vince

What was the code? I can look it up in the ESM when I get back from work for you.

Camshaft Position Actuator A - Bank 2

how does a camshaft over advance itself?
or is it just the position indicator thats shifted?

thanks a lot for your help

I've posted the documentation on that error to my webpage as p0021.pdf If I were you I'd go to a dealer to check it out snce it basically says that once it enters this mode, it will disable the variable valve timing system for you.

Yeah, take the Injen off and then go to the dealer. You definitely don't want the dealer to see the Injen, thats for sure. Do you have the ability to clear the code yourself? If yes, you may want to try to reset it with the Injen off to see if it comes back. My guess is it will b/c I don't see how the Injen could be causing this error, but you never know. Go to the dealer if it does come back.

Didn't somebody just this past week post the same error code and indicated they had the Injen too?

Thanks for your help Y2K2Driver.

How serious do you think this problem is? Will I just be having a rough idle and maybe not run as clean?

Or do you think I should get this fixed right away? I need to drive 500 miles this weekend for Thanksgiving and I'm wondering if my car will be alright.

I am by no means an expert when it comes to this stuff, but I think it looks pretty serious. Do you need to bring it in now, well, thats up to you. I think the car will work reliably, assuming this isn't part of a larger problem, just not as well as it normally has. Then again I'm not really sure. The confusion I have is the variable valve timing is something extra that makes your car work better, but is not neccessary. Very much like the variable intake manifold makes your car work better up top, but it will still run if the manifold ceases to switch over. As such, I would think you could get away with it. Obviously there is a huge disclaimer attached to what I have said. I'm a computer engineer, not a mechanic.
