2001 SE with Warped Rotors

Folks,

New to the Forum and I hope you all can help. I have a 2001 SE that is pretty much stock. It has about 48K miles and its the second time that the brakes are warping pretty bad. You know, gots the shakes when applying the brakes at mostly higher speed (>45mph). The first time i cured it by taking it to a lathe and just evening out the surface. I can't keep doing this every 15k miles and wondering if there are more permanent cures available. I was thinking of going for an aftermarket discs. Nothing of Brembo level but something better atleast. So, whats out there that are available for the Maxima? IS this a common problem? Alternative solutions?

It usually happens (very very)badly when doing alot of heavy breaking like going to the twisties on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Thanks.

Stillen makes a nice upgrade to the Maxima brake system. The following site has been running a deal on the entire kit for some time. You can also order directly from www.stillen.com.

Good luck.

So this is a common problem huh? My neighbor tells me its because newer cars uses more blended steel material and its heat diffusion is not as evenly distributed compared to a more homogenous metal. Well, maybe its just a theory.

I looked at the website MichaelAE suggested and ouch...I wish the solution is much cheaper than a $575 set up.

Check out other prices on just the rotors. You can find an aftermarket set of front ones for under $200 easy. You'll also need to replace your pads as well and those typically run from $50 up to $100. Stillen has just the rotors which replace the stock ones and I'm sure you can find those for under $200.

You could drop the pads, ss lines, and brake fluid and just buy the rotors for a little under $400. Really, you just need to do the front rotors, which could be done for around $200.

LOg on to www.racinconcepts.com get the front an rear rotors from there, log on to www.avalonracing.com or call and talk to Paul, get Stillen front and rear pads and make sur that you tighten all bolts real well. Do all pads and rotors at once. Aside from the Stillen y-pipe and intake combo, best mod ever. You'll ask yourself why you had not done it in the past. The whole deal should set you back about $330 shipping included. PM if you have any questions.
