Navigation System almost got me shot!

Left the Atlanta airport headed to my sister's house in Clayton county GA. Decided to use the Nav system to avoid the freeway. I requested the shortest distance which took me through some side streets and back country roads. I was told to turn on to some street, can't remember the name, but I ended up on what looked to be someone's horse farm. I got to a gate with a No Tresspassing sign. Actually the sign said; No Trasspassing Hunting Season. Then as I began to turn around about twenty dogs came from no where barking at me like I was Alpo.
My brother and nephew were with me and both are from NY. Along with explicit language they told me to skate. By the time I turned around a woman with another dog got out of what looked to be an Expedition to our left, and she was carring either a rifle or shotgun. Actually we did not see her until I began to turn around and my headlights hit her straight on. Now I'm ******* dogs trying to turn around while this woman is walking towards me, not to mention I had to back a couple times thanks to the horrible turning radius on this car.
Anyway, we made it out at break neck speed. As we got to the main road the Nav system was trying to re-route us back to the spot we came from. Uhhhh..no thanks!

Any ideas on what happened here?

Simple. The software is only as good as the buttheads who coded it. I still find 99% navigation software to suck.

same thing happened to me in Oakland. Except I was using my IPAQ, and the dogs were gangs and the lady with the rifle was a homeless looking guy with a steel rod of somesort.

Still helps to know *kinda* where you are going when using NAV. The shortest route is not always the best.

Another time I was in Ft Worth and trying to get back to North Dallas. It routed me through some no-mans-land county roads. I had no idea that there were big open spaces like that between the loop.. well, I found out why.. they are low water crossing roads and I dont think people normally use them. It wasnt a big deal, but had it been at night and raining :/

maybe you just *kinda* know where you are going or what to avoid. Or you dont have any real dangerous things near you that it could NAV you to...

There's actually a feature which allows you to avoid supposed dangerous areas. What they are considered I'm unsure.

Ya know, this makes me wonder if we can program Navigation Systems to help us avoid neighborhoods that are say....demographically or socioeconomically challenged. I think that would be a good GPS feature. Just food for thought.

I may be mistaken but I believe the dearler, depending on your ethnic background, will give you a Nav CD according to what they believe your demographics will be. Since I purchased the car slightly used I may have gotten bubba's demographics. We all remember the hunting trip from the movie "Deliverance"
