Can anyone do this for the maxima? Anyone out there know somebody that might? Otherwise, who would be interested if we contacted the person who did this for the IS? How many people would be interested in it? If there is enough interest, then we can get the same person to do this for the Maxima and have a kit. They're using a fiber based product for the light to go through. Check out the post.
Let's see how many people are interested.

Doesn't look that hard to make. Build some yourself and then sell!!!!!

Carbon fiber would ROCK, especially on my color car or for people who are getting CF hoods *cough**Kev**cough*.
2K2 headlight owners should ALL want this, since the side profile of the running lamp/turn signal is FUGLY and cheap looking. This would fix that. Or maybe some of those GTS smoke covers cut in a similar fashion might work. Hmmmn.
Re: Re: Re: Man I'm sure glad I don't own an IS300.
That's what I was thinking. Just cut them to the shape you want and then paint them. CF would be cool but body color looks cleaner(like the pics). You can tell that the eyelids in the pic don't fit exactly flush either. Kinda looks like furry eyebrows to me.

I just sent an email to the guy who is designing the DDEs for the IS. I'll post his reply once i get it. In the meantime, who seems interested. On the IS forum, if people put a deposit of $50, it's costing them a total of $180 at the end, because they're paying $130 more at then. If they didn't put a deposit, it's costing them $250. I'm not sure how much it would cost for the maximas, but those are the figures the IS guys are looking at.
If he was going to design them for the maximas, provided there is enough demand, how many people would be interested? Let's see some names so we can have an idea.

That's why we don't get any new mods.

That is funny. Well, we'll see. If you read the posts on the IS forums, this guy needed the deposits to start designing the thing, and speed up the process. In the long run, they ended up getting their money worth. Getting shipped this Friday, and they'll be receiving it Monday. They're having an install party i thing in SOCAL, and anyone who goes there will have someone install it for them. Who would be willing to use there car for a test; meaning to shape the kit?So far we have 2 people in. IceY2K1 and I. Sweet. We're on the way to our DDE kit.
I've been wanting some eyelids for my 2K2 for a long time. Just remember that the outer surface of the 00-01 is different than the 02-03. Up here in the NW we compared them side-by-side, and the 00-01 has a dip that the 02-03's don't have.
There is somebody up here that I have talked to, that can help us design some eyelids for 5th gens. It would be fiberglass, and much cheaper than the ones shown above. Anybody interested?

I just got the reply from the guy who's making the DDEs for the IS. He says that they're already developing some for the Maxima so i asked him to fill in more info on the org. It may be the same person you're talking about Jeff92se, i'm not sure. If it is, sorry for the post, but if it's not it'll create some competitive prices.

You MAKE it and this board will buy it. I know this, because of the fact that I'm the reason Dave Burnette has personally sold dozens of 2K2 HIDs, 2K2 manual shift consoles, and 350Z dead pedals that wouldn't even exist. It's not that they wouldn't be figured out eventually, however NOT many people here try stuff just for the hell of it. Emax95, Dixit, Kevin, Steve, MardiGrasMax, Turbo95Max, hlh0501, Turbo97, and several others are true pioneers that make this board great. We need more people willing to sacrifice a little pain and money to keep the mods from stagnating.
IF your still interested in trying to make these, I'll help.
well, one thing I have noted already is there is a certain "quality" to this board that I'm only accustomed to seeing on a rare few boards that I'm a frequent visitor on. This quality is very good, very open, and willing to listen and understand - save a few oddballs
Don't worry Polo has had a personal setback but he's a trooper and is sending me his broken headlights right away. I have all the parts here to play with setting it up on the light, so no worries on availability.
What we've got to discover is the following:
a) do we need another mold for rings or do we have what we need
b) do we need another mold for clips (do we even need clips) or do we go with the standard non-clip design.
c) how is the overall routing in the Maxima engine bay
d) how do I route the fiber around the headlight without making it conspicuous.
We'll do it, just not by Christmas if points a and/or b are true.

b)I'd like clips, if the only other choice is glue.
c)Behind the housings? If so, the Passenger side is open with plenty of room, but the Drivers side is going to be a pain. Removing the battery allows some room to work, but removing the headlamp housing is a <2min job each, so not a problem.
d)This is going to be the bish. How did the IS300s run the light source to the halos? Any idea on a33s' solution?
I'll go into more detail later but quick responses are:
a) ring diameter is the difference between crappy "beady" eyes and Demon Eyes brand products
b) none of our fiber optic products require glue - it's all friction fitting - both the ones with the clips and without.
c) we can route around the battery - we have a vinyl protective sheath.
d) the light source is a light box - our design and manufacture.

I'm NOT going to turn this into another one of those "boring" threads.
Here are the facts.
Let's look at the virtues of the Gen IV rings:
1) Poly Carbonate
2) Flexible
3) Clearer than OEM BMW
4) Non-deforming
5) Specifically sized barrel openings that are re-engineered to match our proprietary fiber (no longer sourced from anywhere)
6) Poly Carbonate clips
7) 2+ years of R&D
8) Non-heat sensitive
Now let's break them down one at a time:
1) Clearer, stronger construction. They offer sharper edges, cleaner light dispersion, and better quality than their acrylic brethren. Ask around - Poly Carbonate is becoming the NEXT BIG THING for bumpers, windshields, and side glass for cars. WHY? Because it's durable, looks great, and strong!
2) Flexible - allows the Gen IV rings to be used in multiple application without any problems. Almost completely removes that chance they will break during shipment, installation, or handling.
3) Side by side, they are clearer - even cleaner in their dispersion of light.
4) Despite being flexible, they will maintain their "memory" and not deform. For example, when installed into an E36, they require a slight (few mm) of change in diameter (flexible), when removed, they spring back to their original diameter (a few mm). Also, this is important for e46 because they require no glue to be situated - it's all friction fitting - and the friction fit remains throughout the lifetime of the install.
5) We no longer import our fiber, we make it ourselves. Why? Because this ensures that our manufacturing specifications are adhered to. Why is this important? Because the Gen IV rings have a built in opening. No more messing with a clip that "sits" onto the halo and loses light. Just like the OEM 5-series Halo.
6) The clips for the E46 are also poly carbonate - they withstand an insane amount of pressure and will NOT break - even when pliers are used to break them.
7) What's to say, you get better with age and experience.
8) Will NOT deform (some acrylic WILL deform) due to high heat output of headlights.

2)How many orders/deposits do we need for this to happen? I think 30-50 like the IS300 board is beyond this board INITIALLY. Once a few of these are installed and the pictures are posted, you will see that more people will follow.
3)Was a33 a customer? If so, we need to track him down and see what he did.
I had one person buy from me for a Maxima...maybe it was him, dunno.
Let's plan on crossing every bridge slowly.
We've learned some things during the IS300 development that we'll be able to implement into the process to speed various things up.

does anyone here have the angel eyes on their 2k2+ maximas yet?? i was just wondering because i heard someone was coming out with a way to do this. anyway...if anyone has them who has pics, i really wanna see them if anyone has them!
