8 or 9 inch rims

I am trying to decide on some new rims. I am definately going with 18s, the roads around me are just too rough to run a 35 series tire. I will be running 245/40/18s. I am curious, though, what are the advantages and disadvantages of going with either a 8 inch or 9 inch rim width.

a 9 inch rim will be heavier than an 8........but the 9 will get better grip to the ground(given the right sized tire)...........i'd rather get the 8's though - fuel economy =]

Volk SE37Ks or LE37Ks run up to 9.5 inch widths, and are very light. Lighter than most 17x7" rims. Check em out.

Rim size and weight

I just installed 18x8 AR Vortecs with 245 35 18's and my gas mileage droped quite a bit. I went from 390-410 a tank, down to 320-340 with mostly highway and some city driving. These rims are very heavy but give me a close to stock ride. Just something to think about when picking rims and tires. What ever you choose, good luck enjoy them.

Yeah gas mileage is something that I am concerned about. I commute to work in this car so it tends to add up.

I will probably go with either a 8 or 8.5 inch rim in whatever style I pick/can afford. I am really looking hard at some Volks. We'll see how the money looks this spring.

Thats very odd, my Chrome 19s weight the exact same as the stock wheels with tires. But obviously weight is not everything, it is where the weight is positioned, if the weight is closer to the center than it is better and wont be affect performance too much.

Lately my mileage has been crap, but that is due to the fact that I drive only 2.5miles to work. However when I went to Alabama on a 800mile trip couple weeks ago, I got about 25mpg. Still lower than my last time when I got 30, but believe I need to change the oil and clean my throttle body again.
