Another area to check for noise if you've done the a-pillar and faceplate noise fixes.

After realizing that the BOSE system is useful for finding loose fittings in my Max, I burned an audio CD of LF test tones that were stepped in half-octave intervals and also slow sweeped from 25 Hz to 400 Hz.

I used this CD today to find yet another source of rattle in my passenger door: the courtesy light cover and socket. Not only was the lens cover rattling against the housing, the light fixture was loose in the door panel AND the light bulb was loose!!!

The fixes were easy: I bent the springs in the housing to make it fit more snugly into the door opening. I added some scotch tape to the lens cover so that it snapped snugly into the housing, and I used a bent paper clip to bend the bulb socket pins out so that the bulb fit snugly.

So this, combined with a noisy map pocket (which was fixed with Dynamat-like material applied to the inside of the pocket), caused my passenger door area to be a friggen' symphony of creaks. The trunk, however, is as they say, "a whole other show" and I'll wait for a slow Saturday to tackle all the little noises back there. Fortunately, they aren't too severe.

I guess I should feel lucky that these noises are my only problem with the Max.

Nice work, keep us posted. I need a nice day to start out and try to tackle all these creaks, pops and rattles. The only one I fixed so far, but the WORST (IMO) was the passenger A Pillar rattle. Still need to deal with the BOSE subwoofer, the glove box, and the one you mentioned here.

faceplate replace?

Hi. I too seem to have a rattle/buzz from the radio area, and have noticed that some of you folks have posted about the "faceplate fix" as a cure. Did you get your dealer to replace the radio, and now you've got no problems? I recently dropped off my car at my dealer, and they said they couldn't "replicate" the problem. Damn, drive the car and they'd hear it!

However, on another issue, after using cabinet felt pads under the rubber stoppers and taking apart the lock barrel mechanism, i still had the infamous glovebox rattle. Go figure, my dealer was actually able to fix it by realigning the glove box and tightening the hinges. Oh, and I finally convinced them to give me the new TCM. Thanks Ramsey Nissan!

Any feedback on how you got a fix to your radio buzz/rattle would be much appreciated!!

You're right, the key is to get the dealer to hear the radio rattle. In my case tapping on the steering wheel replicated the face plate rattle every time. The dealer then replaced my radio under warranty with no hassle.

Ive also tried the rubber pads and took apart my lock etc...all to no avail...glovebox still creaks...what Ive found is that is not the door itself...if you look the glovebox like you are in the passanger seat, its the part right to the right of the door...with box open and push on the inside of the exposed wall there, it creaks like a ****...I think its where the dash meets that piece...

Has anyone taken out there glove box? Looks like if you undo the screws in the box the whole piece including the piece to the right comes out...any ideas on quieting this down? Of course the 10-20 deg temps dont help

I afraid of making things worse...ie noisier

I cured my glovebox creak by doubling up on felt pads just on the right side of the box. Somehow this worked.

I take it you are talking about inside the box on the door wher it contacts the rubber thingy?

Yes. Felt pads opposite the left and center rubber thingy did nothing. But by moving them to contact the right thingy did the trick for me.

Bass resonance rattle in drivers door

I have a base resonance rattle and a very light but annoying ticking from the drivers door.

Any thoughts?

I fixed the glove box rattle by bending the latch upward a few millimeters. It hasn't rattled since.

Creaking on drivers seat

I get an intermittant creaking noise while seated in the drivers seat. (Power/Leather) I thought that it had something to do with the seat belt receptacle, but don't think that's it. Anyone else have this?

I had the same problem with my 2000 Maxima. After many attempts to locate the noise, I found that it is the Seat Belt receptacle. I just sprayed a little WD-40 into the insertion slot and some around the place where the bar/cord attaches to the seat. I just went on a 7hr trip and not a noise!!
