CD changer.....Is it pre-wired.
I never purchased the cd-changer for my 2001 SE 20th Anniversary Edition. What I wanted to know is if the CD Changer wires are pre-installed from the factory, so if I do purchase it, it's plug and play. Let me know,
Thanks.
Thanks.
depending on what type of cd changer you buy. the only one that will work with the existing stereo is the Clarion model that Nissan sells. Its a bit more complicated than "just plugging it in", you have to know what youre doing and it also requires a mounting kit. I had mine put in as part of the contract at no cost when I signed my name, but I think if you go back to your dealer, they should only charge about 50 bucks or so, which isnt bad considering circuit city charges 110.
ummm, no
its not prewired. I've installed 2 (2K max)... and talked to many others who have, none of us had the harness already. Even so, it doesnt take that long. it isnt that hard. But yes, it SHOULD be prewired, just saving a buck on Nissan part.
When I purchased my car I was informed that it came prewired for a cd-changer. Every dealer told me that when asked. So i am going by what i was told, i didnt personally install the changer, so from me perosnally, i took their word for it. they specified that it was pre-wired for the Clarion cd changer that Nissan sells, but anything else would need an FM modulator.

Not sure about the 2001 Max, but the 2000 is NOT prewired. Installation kit has the cable bundle, but you need to install it yourself. Complete start to finish for CD changer ane wiring should run a little over 2 hours.

yeah....
the salespeople said it was prewired too (they lied about our pathfinder too). I think they assumed since it SHOULD and a car at that price should be prewired. but the service/parts dept knew better. and in some cars, the dealer ran the wiring thinking someone would pay $650 for it. after the car sat alittle while or someone else wanted it, they pulled the changer and left the $35 harness. They would rather pull the changer than take less for an option. and to find out it only costs them $250 (or less). Maybe an hour of labor and they want to be an *** about it. Well, Courtesy Nissan to the rescue again, bought two for 600!
yeah, is a Clarion but on an odd bus. Maybe Euro Spec. the CV737 is not available in the US directly. There is a canadian/euro CV737, but no guarantees on the bus (bose, then you still have to get the harness). considering the OEM is only $275 from a place like Courtesy and there is an aftermarket option, its not worth the hassle finding a retail Clarion to work.

Actually Clarion makes the head unit too, according to one of the reps at Bose.
btw- dealer told me mine was prewired for a CD changer too... but it definitely was not.

my understanding
is that all bose makes is the speakers... Bose is supposed to tune the stereo to the make of car, and since they dont make the head unit, that would actually make sense that they put the amps on the speakers instead of the head unit. but thats just a guess
rf changer...
thatz what my dealer installed when I said I wanted a 6 disc changer, assuming that it would work with the factory radio because that is what the accessory sticker showed on the car. If my car is prewired or not, is it still possible to install the 6 disc changer that runs through the factory system? All I have to do is get that part, take off my radio, run the wire to the trunk, and mount it, right?
I just got the 6 disc Clarion CD changer installed 2 days ago. 2000 and 2001 maximas DO NOT come pre-wired. When the guy said "pre wired for a CD changer" it translates into "The stock radio has the capacity to operate a CD changer".
If you have the Double DIN radio (AM/FM/Tape/CD) Your only option is the trunk-mount CD changer ($550 installed). The installation took 4 hours, and there was a dent at the top of my factory radio!! Probably from a tool they used to pry the trim panel off. I WAS P!SSED!!!
If you have the Single DIN radio (you have this if there is a shelf or a space under the radio) than you have two options. You can either get the same trunk-mounted CD changer for the same price, OR get a 6 disc in-dash CD changer that mounts right under the radio. I believe the disc changers are the same price, but installation for the in-dash is cheaper.
Either way, nothing comes pre-wired. If it did, all you would have to do would be to buy the clarion CD changer from Nissan Parts, secure it in the car, and simply plug it in to the cable that would be in the trunk.

You'll need the CD changer and the mounting hardware. There's a little drilling in the trunk (very easy). The hardest part of the install is removing the Bose head unit without hurting the dash (just have to be careful), but you'll probably be more careful than any dealer that actually tried to sell you an RF model. You'll also need to pop off a couple of the plastic runners by the doors and you'll need to pop off the rear seat to run the wiring harness. Aside from that, everything plugs right in; it's not that bad of an install.
Order it from Dave at South Point or from Courtesy Nissan. You'll get a much better price.

#2. The Bose stereo IS pre-wired for a changer (inside the stereo with a changer jack on the outside).
All you have to do is plug it in: To a long cable YOU install when you install the changer. See?? So no, the salesmen did not lie. They stretched it a bit though. They are so good at such things, the make a living doing them.
Clarion 6 disc cd changer for the trunk.
Hello all, just curious, still not very clear though, I have an 00 maxima gxe with cd, tape, and am/fm stereo, and just bought the clarion 6 disc trunk mounted cd changer. How hard and what do I need to do to get this installed?? The cd changer came with mounting bracket and harness, ebay, so any feedback would be greatly welcomed....thanks!
