Need Help removing Main Grille, 2K2 ...

Ok guys. I just got some prototype Grilles for the 2K2-3's... I just need to remove the main grille, and put these on. There are 4 different ones. I want to take pics of all 4 on my car. I am working with Grille-Tech on this, and a sure GD to come..

How do I get the main grille off my 2K2 ?? Any help is appreciated !

Re: Need Help removing Main Grille, 2K2 ...

i can't remember everything when i installed my trenz grill...but

1. first you have to remove the plastic clips/rivets on top (i think four)
2. pull the fascia back and remove 3 bolts holding the grill
3. on bottom of the grill, there's four clips to push out the grill

i would also recommend putting masking tape on the inner fascia as you're trying out the different grills to prevent scratches on the paint. good luck.

use a small screwdriver to pop them off.

its actually a lot more simple than that.

there is no need to take out those 4 clips on top. they have nothing to do with the grill. all you need to do is remove the 3 bolts along the top edge of the grill (one in the very top right corner, one right in the center, and one in the very top left corner) after you have those out just give it a firm tug from the Nissan emblem.

they are on the inside edge of the grill. just lean over your car and try to look behind the grill. the two corner ones are pretty hard to see. you'll probably have to feel for them. they're hard to see but they are not hard to get to with a socket. its really easy.

You guys are all crazy Newman you where almost right though, hehe.

Kloogy there are 4 8 mm bolts behind the grill that need to be removed. They are located near the extreme of each edge. Once the 4 bolts are removed you have to grab the grill from the center and give it a good hard tugg. The grill will then pop off.

this confuses me because i have done this about a dozen times and there are definitely only 3 bolts that need to be removed.

maybe there is a difference between early 2k2s and later 2k2s. you said FOUR 8 mm bolts, but mine has THREE 10 mm bolts.

lets see what kloogy says.

also, something i just remembered.

a long time ago when you painted your grill i asked you if the Nissan emblem was removeable. you told me that is wasnt. or to be more specific, you said "The emblem does not come off to my knowledge" but the emblem does in fact come off.

so, im wondering if you were just mistaken or if it is possible that our grills have a few differences.

Well I'm confused. I have my JMS grille in my back seat, waiting to get installed this weekend....took a quick look at the back of the grille when I parked my car at work this morning and didn't see any bolts! Are they under something?? are they along the top of the grille or all around...and do you have to remove any tabs?

Guys,
I agree with Newman here on how to remove the grill. My 2k2 also only has 3 bolts that need to be removed from the back with a socket, give it a tug and it pops right off, the whopper does also come off but you need to get the main grill of first, (youll see when you do it.

Newman,
Im not to fond of my JMS upper grill, I like the lower one much better. The upper one (1/4") you can still see the big middle bar behind it. It maybe a little different in your case considering it is all black.

If I ever get around to getting these pics taken I will do that and post them before I decide to switch back.

(The lower grill is really good though)

Advice for DrVolk, be careful pushing in the grills. Sometimes that gasket slips off and the jagged edges will scratch up your paint real good on the inner fascia, (believe me I know)! Cant notice any scratches with the factory or JMS in there but its still scratched nonetheless.

yeah DrVolk, the bolts are only on the top of the grill. they are hard to see.

Pete, glad you at least like the lower one. i actually took my JMS grill off and put the stock one back in. and just recently i bent my lower grill when i pulled too far into a parking space and hit a wall of snow. i'll have to take it off to fix the bends but i may not put it back on. we'll see.

When I had my grill removed and painted (body color) it was simple, but tricky.

My 2k2 had 3 nuts (10mm) that attached to posts that are slotted into the grill. They are at the top of the grill on the left, right, and center. You'll need a socket to remove. Once removed the grill pops right out.

Maybe if you can somehow incorporate the stock grille with this one.

Also, the supports inside are really visible because kloogy's car is white.

true, his car is white. I would like to see it on a darker car, like my grey lustre. But, as wegaman says, you can see EVERYTHING behind it, if thats the case, i will paint my stock grille the factory color and be done with it. its a shame though, i think the grilles are hot, i just DONT WANT TO SEE THAT CRAP! ...

If those are Photoshopped on, why can you darken the grill support and then paste the pics of the grills on there. Also could you show close ups of each grill's mesh?

Yikes!! I think the grill itself looks good, but the fact that you can see everything behind it sucks! Gotta go something about that!

Of course I'm not blaming you Kloogy.

My friend told me that when the grilles are released for sale, they will not show the grill housing or any framing. The grilles are just prototypes and not totally finished product.

That's reassuring! I hope we get pictures of the 'real' product.
