Pilot Sport A/S Installed (good and bad)
Pilot Sport A/S Installed (good and bad)
Well, I just had my RE92's removed and Pilot Sport A/S's installed today. $880 OTD, with Road Hazard warranty from Sears. That's the good part.
I just had my car aligned yesterday night from the dealership (pulling left since the transverse link recall) and it was driving straight. Well, after the PS's were installed this morning, much to my surprise, the car is now pulling right. I turned right around and went back to Sears. The service guy said that the alignment needs to be done after new tires are installed. This just doesn't sound right. They took the car in and rotated the tires. It still pulls right, but not as bad. They suspected that a tire was bad and are looking for a replacement.
My question is this: should I just pay $60 for an alignment tomorrow and get it done and over with, or should I try and get the dealership to do it over again (or Sears to do it for free)? It'd be nice to pay only $880 instead of $940 at the end of it all. Especially with Christmas and all.
Whaddya'll think?

I always try to find a store with a Hunter balancer. They may have one, just havent used it on your tires yet.

they have a store locator... and more importantly, click on the "StraightTrak" image. Too cool huh?
basically roadforce balancers use a wheel to simulate the tires characteristics under load. You find all kinds of interesting things under load, like sidewall variances.
Most shops that have these dont charge extra to have a road force balance, but sometimes they have more than one balancer and just get lazy and dont use the Hunter.. you always have to ask to be sure.

the pulling to the right you're experiencing will probably subside as the tires wear. just rotate them every so often to distribute the wear evenly.
alignments aren't needed unless suspension/steering component work is done. tire changes do not fall in this category.
Cliff's Notes: you don't need an alignment
Re: Pilot Sport A/S Installed (good and bad)
When I got my PSAS installed, the car was perfectly fine. The best thing to do is have the dealership do the alignment. I know its prob more expensive, but they will keep fixing it until it is 100% perfect. You might also want to check the air pressure in all of the tires, sometimes if one side is lower than the other, it can cause the car to pull
