DAMN!! CIVIC SI......gotta read this! (kinda long)

Ok well heres the deal.....tonight me and a buddy of mine were just cruisin around. well i pull up to a light beside a pretty nice looking civic. blue 2 door coupe with an SI emblem on the back. rims, dropped, exhaust, superwhites, all the stuff u normally SEE around here. well we took off from the light and i spun like hell (thanks to my worn out kumhos!) but still managed to pull ahead off the start...then i hear this wierd *** sound and the damn civic starts to hang at about my rear quarter panel and then slowly come up on me, he was catching me! we were side by side for the rest of the race! he wasnt ahead of me and i wasnt ahead of him, it was almost dead even! i had him in the quarter mile tho, but not by all that much, maybe one forth of a car length...race went from 0 to about 110 i guess and i shut down first...but it amazed me that he stayed with me! a civic! what kinda mad **** could that guy have had under his hood? i swear i heard a turbo blow off under there or somethin, maybe the sound i heard was him sprayin damn NOS or some ****. but i was totally amazed! i give him props on his ride! a civic that looked good and that could sure as hell hold its own! i just wanna know what he might have had under the hood to be able to get beat from the start, come back and only loose the quarter race by about a foot and a half, and then stay door to door with me until we shut down. was he sprayin? turbo? engine swap? what in the hell could he have had???? all in all it was an awesome run and a lot of fun! dont wanna consider it a kill really although i would have had him in the quarter.....but damn that was an awesome run!

those civic Si's have 160hp from the factory. they run low 15s stock. once you start adding the i/h/e you can see some 14's

like i said he didnt outrun me, and he defnately didnt beat me if we would have been running a quarter mile race....i just said he lost from the start, came back and then ran door to door with me until we shut down...not outran me...just ran with me and of course i know im stock automagic so ya know..no biggy, a 5 speed would have handled him easy because like ive said like twice he didnt out run me just hung with me.

1) dont be shocked by a prelude hanging with you, they are fast.
2) i dont think many of you understand that civic SI's arnt like civic DX's, or anything, they are pretty quick and good competion for a stock auto max. they run mid to high 15's stock with a good driver, and hes 5speed, that gives him an edge. a friend of mine has a 99' civic si, with i/h/e and v-tech controller and he runs high 14's (good driver) so dont be suprised if an N/A modded civic si, holds its own. and he wasnt turbo then he would have pasted u up like no tomorrow. but since u went off the line and civic torque speeks for its self he could have been spraying something small like a 50 shot or so. if u want to feel better about yourself go race a stock ex, dx, and then u can go half throttle and still pull a few cars

i ran a civic si back in my junior year of hs, 2 years ago, and i knew this guy, he had the intake and exhaust, dont think he had headers, but we lined up once, it was really short, and i think basically the same thing happened, i got the jump, but he was pulling quick, we only got to 45 cuz a truck pulled in front of me but he was pretty much there

I'm pretty sure he was NA. I don't think a max could hang with a FI'ed Civic SI.

I've seen stock ones routinely run mid-15s at the track and a couple of the boosted ones I've see run upper 13's. And though the mags and brochure indicate that the 99-00 Si has 160hp stock, it's actually about 170hp (same as the B18C1 DC2, er, 94-01 Integra GSR).

Slickrick, if the Si is boosting, our stock 2K2 Maximas wont be up to the task.

Peace

I don't understand??? You are driving a car that does the 1/4 in the low 16's. Why would you be suprised to see a Civic keep up with you? I am afraid to race anyone in my Maxima because it really isn't that fast. Actually my 13.76@105mph (Z28) really isn't all that impressive either.

well i have but it was turbo, 95 red hatchback with riced out bodykit. started from approx 55 (strong part of 2nd gear) and he just toyed with me, i pulled like 2cars then i heard him peelin and shoot right by me like nothing. went from 2 cars back to 3 cars ahead in like 2sec, little mean *** peice of rice. also a friend of mines frankenstien 95 ive lost to as well, hes runnin 12.6:1 compression and hits 12's consistantly in street form. i have no clue what he runs at the track but his car is a sleeper, normal lights, no rice add-ons, all black.

in a cold day in hell...

Stock Civic Si's run mid-high 15s. This is on par with the new Civic Si's...the new Civic Si's (aka, MiniVan Si) are nocably slower though.

a Civic Si w/ i/h/e will be lucky to run a high 14. It's closer to a low-mid 15.

and the high pitch note you heard was the vtec cam switchover.

Yeah, my cousin drives a '99 Si with nothing but an intake. When his car revs high, the vtec switches over and that thing sounds LOUD! Sounds really metallic... kind of like a "bees in a can" sound, but 100 times louder. His car is quick, and he can hang with me, but he's never beat my 2001 autotragic SE (intake only, as well).

just came back from the track today and the 99 civic si there ran a 13.1 qtr mile.. I forgot what he trapped at. It would be hard for a maxima to beat that.

I am confused that you state "If we ran a 1/4 mile", but in your post you said that you ran from 0-110mph. Are you aware that you car runs about 90mph in the 1/4?

well considering that the guy that first posted this thread didn't know what the car had and claimed that it sounded weird. He sounded surprised that it kept up with him.. so i'm just saying that their capable of a 13.1.. which would burn a modded maxima. that's all.
