K&N Drop In Filter Part #

Does anyone know the part number for the K&N drop in filter for 2k2's? I want to get one instead of an aftermarket intake. I don't want to have to deal with going to the dealer and getting my MAF replaced because of the intake.

How'd you like it jjs? I mean was there any noticable difference between the k&n and the paper element? I was going to try this slight mod myself soon...was wondering if it was worth it besides the $ you'd save over the life of the car. What are they, like 40 bucks or so?

thanks!

I think it was a little over $40.00. I have had it in for 30K miles and 2 years without a single hickup from the SES or MAF. From what I recall, the throttle response does feel a tad more lively than before, but I was also interested in a more long term filter since I travel through rather dusty areas. Personally, I like it (and have had one on several previous cars ('88 5.0 Mustang, '93 Prelude VTEC, my current Ram and the Max)).

Thanks for the info jjs and Ice2k1. I'll probably do this if theres a good chance there'd be no hiccups from the sensors...

Only thing is...I dont know how to do the oiling thing after you clean them. If memory serves me correctly, I think after you clean it with some kind of solution, you just use a small amount of oil on the filter...kind of a feel thing. Not much oil at all is needsd i think.
Isnt the oil what was messin up the sensors?

thanks guys

That is the theory according to some.

Just don't go crazy with the oil, give it time to soak in well and then you can lay it on a pad of papertowels to help 'leach' out the excess, some people have tried gentle air pressure to blow out remains, etc.

I prefer the pad method.

When you installed the filter, did you use the gaskets that came with the filter?

Why is there a big price difference between the K&N filter ($40) and a Stillin hi-flow intake (on their website $177.45)? Is there something extra that it comes with?

Yes I did, to seat it more firmly in place.

its actually pretty critical to do that ... or else you may get some junk in the intake.

ive been using K&Ns for 4 years now ... hp gains are always debate-able but fuel econ alone saved me a few bux a year.

good luck

I have the drop-in filter in my 2000 SE 5spd, didn't make any noticeable difference in performance, and gas mileage stayed exactly the same (I track every tank). 5000 miles after I put it in, my MAF blew, fixed under warranty. I'm almost scared to re-oil it in case I blow the MAF again, so when it is time, I may replace with a new one, or put in the stock paper filter. I put one on my Dodge Durango with the 360 ci engine, felt an immediate "seat-of-the-pants" difference in performance, and mileage increased by 1 mpg (pretty good when you're only getting 13 to start with!).
