How About These Rims?
How About These Rims?
Was wondering what you all thought about these rims. I am looking at these in 17" x 7" and a set of Kumho Surpa 712's for $1200. That includes tax, install, warranty, all that jazz. I am pretty sure I will be able to get the guy down another $100 though. He is wanting to move them before the end of the year. I know 18"s are what most folks are going for. But, I want something fairly light. As well as a rim which won't require a really expensive replacement tire. I had some 18" x 9" on my SS and I was looking at 1K just for tires. That is something I was trying to move away from with the purchase of my Max. Let me know what you think.
ps- if I screwed up the link, forgive me. first timer with links in this forum.

Jerdubois: My stock wheels are actually 16"s. And I think the width is 6", but I would not swear to it. The previous owner must have made that poor choice at the initial purchase for whatever reason. So, these would be an inch bigger all around. If my previous suspicion on width is true. I would love to go with something wider. Hell, I would love to go with some 18" x 8"s. But, money is of concern. I am trying to keep as close to $1000 budget as possible. As there is another big dollar item I will be getting soon of which quantity and quality is of way more importance. And you would be right in your assumption, we don't get too much snow here in Austin TX.
MaxSE03: The tires he was giving me that price on were: 225/45/17s. Again, I would love to go with a wider rim, but I am not sure what the price difference would be. Or if they have them in stock. Which is why I am getting a deal cut on these.
Maximam: I know, I know. I wish they made these in 17 x 8 but no go. And these are the only rims I have found that I liked, and were in my price range. The others I saw were not of a very high caliber at all.

Here you go:
ADR spec-r
ADR RPM
ADR DSL
BSA 259
5Zigen F-15
Katana c6
Konig Absolute
Tenzo Senko
All 18x7.5 (or larger) and all at $999 or less. An 18" wheel is minimum for aftermarket IMO.

I like all these. Especially the BSA 259. But my budget is for rims and rubber. I don't think I would be able to buy tires with these rims for at or hovering around $1000. If I am not looking in the right place, please let me know. I would love to get a set of those BSA's with tires within my budget. Thanks for the links.

I guess a secondary, newbie type question I would have is: If I purchase these and have them shipped to me, would I then have to have Discount Tire or someone else put them on so they could balance them and whatnot? Or could I just put them on myself? I know, that is probably a really stupid question. But, I am not exactly knowledgeable on buying/installation of new tires.

Picture of the rim is below. I will post some pics sometime after Christmas of them on the car. As well as all of my other mods. Thanks for everyone's input. Cheers!http://www.discounttire.com/dtc/find...865&path=wheel

I hate to disappoint you Kloogy, but that is what I got. 18x7.5. I was going to have to go with 17x7 due to my budget. But, when the guy at Discount Tire heard me having second thoughts about spending that much money only to get 17x7's ($1040), he told me about a set of rims one of his employees ordered for his own car. Decided to go with the same rim but silver color instead. Now he was going to have to ship them back, blah blah blah. Essentially, he gave me those rims (brand new) and 18x7.5 w/ Kuhmo tires (235/40/zr-18 I think they are) for $1086. I think it was a pretty good deal. But, I am sure someone will break my heart by posting that you can get em for $860.

They certainly handle better than those tiny Toyo's that were on there. The rims/tires make the car look much more sporty. Especially after I put the Street Scene front valence in. I think I am pretty content now. Right.......... More mods please.
