I've got a 2002 Maxima SE and I was wondering if a K+N air filter would be good to add to the car. I've asked my dealer and he said it would be ok and wouldn't avoid any warranty but might throw codes. Has anyone had any experience with a K+N air filter in an 02' Maxima? Does it improve fuel economy? performance? I'm not expecting much....I just want to improve my fuel economy without any trouble....thanks.

To be honest, you should look at it from the perspective of not having to buy a filter again...any benefits (which will be small) should be considered a bonus.

The K&N might help throttle response a little. I have one and like it. It will take a combo of things to increase fuel economy, K&N filter, synthetic oil, and proper inflation of tires. Most important,
time and distance beyond 10,000 miles.

Not that much faster acceleration, but enough to notice it when you go back to the paper. Also, I got gas mileage increases of about .5-1 mpg per gallon, so it's not a huge amount, but enough to save a few bucks in the long run (I know because I track every tank). Not a bad buy for $40.

The Maxima Air filter is very easy to replace. Just undo the two metal snaps on top of the box and lift the tray. The air filter fits inside the tray and therefore the K+N should fit right in there, however there may be gaskets to use to make sure it fits properly. I'm going to go and get the filter today.

I put one in my 02 Alti SE. I picked up 2-3 mpg in mixed driving. Maybe a little increase in power..more mental (wishful thinking) on my part than anything. Quite a few people have blamed the K&N for MAF problems...including dealerships. So if you have a problem, before you take it in for service...Keep the old filter and swap them out.

On a 2K2, you undo the metal snaps. After undoing the snaps, slide the filter carriage out. Take out the old paper filter and install the gaskets for the K&N to go in. Install the K&N and then put everything back.

I have one on my '02, had one on my '94, and had one on my '88 Caprice. Need I say I love having them.
