Review of Firestone Firehawk SZ50EP tires

Well needless to say my tires were bald and smooth as Frasier Krane's head. After extended review of tires through the org and on tirerack I ended up choosing the Firestone Firehawk SZ50EP. At $162 a tire it's not the cheapest, but it had the longest treadwear rating of the tires I chose. Also the reviews on the handling, noise, and comfort were very good at 8.5 and above on all categories. So I bought them. Put them on last week and as soon as they were on I was out testing them in the Southern California rain. These by far are the best tires I have ever been on. They handled superb in the rain gripping around the corners and flying through straights like it was dry out.

When the rain let up the next day or so I tested them again driving hard around corners and accelerating fast. They were just beautiful in the handling. Made my boat of a Maxima handle almost like a BMW (ok well probably not close, but hey).

I highly recommend these tires to anyone who lives in an area without much snow and only rain. In my opinion they are one of the best all aoround high performance summer tire you can get.

No. They have a 215/45/17 availabe at $149. That's the closest to stock you will find. It will fit a stock rim 17x7. I went with 235/45/17 on my stock GLE rims. And for those who are concerned with the out of spec rim width I am running thank you for the concern but STUFF IT! I haven't had any problems running wider tires, so I am not going to worry about it now.

I've heard great things about that tire! Great product for a great price.

I was looking into those to replace my Toyo T1-S's .. but they don't make them in 245-40-18 ... had to get Bridgestone S-03's instead ... I LOVE tires that stick like glue in the rain!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmmm. Maybe we ARE starting to see a trend toward narrower tires.

I, for one, am not concerned about the fact that you run 235/45R17 tires on your stock GLE rims, foodmanry. If anyone seems to have built a resentment over this issue, it's you. And as I'm fond of saying:

It's better to give a resentment than to get a resentment!

I've had the SZ50ep's on my 2k2 6spd for about 25,000 kms and they are terrific. Awesome in the rain and wicked in the dry. Far more tire than my stock suspension SE can ever use. If the tread wear rating holds true, I'm going to be wildly impressed. The only time I notice them being noisier than the Blowtenzas would be at low speed, tight turns (such as in a parking lot). During this sort of manuever, it sounds like the SZ's are going to peel the pavement right off the ground

Mine are also 235-45/17.

I'll definitely repeat when these are done.

Well no resentment. Sorry if I gave the impression. But I just don't want to start another thread with the whole "specified tire" issue. That has been beaten to death more than anything I know of on here.

Yeah I noticed a little noise while driving out to Vegas. But they are actually more quiet than my old Yokohamas. I hope the tread wear rating holds true! If it does it's an amazing tire.
