Persistent Hood Vibration
Persistent Hood Vibration
Can anyone else help? I have an '01 GLE with 20K miles and the hood has vibrated (drivers side only)at highway speeds since I got it. I have seen many post on the site about the TSB and other "fixes". My dealer has now done everything the TSB refers to (headlight rubber kit, rubber hood latch bumper and just yesterday, the hood adhesive)and the vibration is still there. Is this just one of those things you gotta live with??

No answers for you but your situation begs
another question...my '01 SE's hoods has never as much as twitched, so...do we have a situation where Nissan changed parts on us without anyone knowing? Are the part numbers for the hunges, latches, etc etc all the same unchanged since the Gen5's introduction?

Strangely when I bought the car it already had the hood bumber thing already on. Anyway, my hood still vibrates above 70, mostly only when it's windy out. The only thing I have yet to try is to glue the hood like the TSB states. The thing that kills me is that people with 2003's are having this problem as well! That tells me that Nissan never really fixed the problem at the manufacturing level, which really disappoints me. Anyone who might know of a way to fix this please let me know.

hood...
I hate Nissan Service Dept... I have 3k miles on my 03 Max SE.. I told them that my hood vibrated as soon as i notice before any mods.. Well one of the guys moved my bump stops up and it won't vibrate but the damn hood isn't level with the fenders... Well since then i put my CAI on and they are saying that that is what is causing it... I told the Service Manager that it did it before that so they R going to make me take it off and put the stock box back in to prove my point.. ****es me off

I had tried the same thing with moving the bump stops up. It really helped the vibration, but yeah the hood was sticking up way over the fenders. At first I thought that air was getting up under the hood and picking the hood up but now I believe that it's the air pushing down on the hood instead. It's like the hood doesn't close tight enough. I'm also really disappointed at Nissan Service. I wish I knew more about how to fix cars so I could do it myself.

Just found the hood vibration problem in the TSB sticky, but the link is broken for the pdf. Anyone have it? Thanks.

I looked at my 97 and the hood is rock solid...it doesn't budge when you push down on it and doesn't move on the highway. Quality definitely wasn't Job #1 durimg 5th gen production.
on the turnkpike when its windy i get the same problem. i just try to focus on the rpms and not look at the hood. it scares me. is heir any possibility that the hood can fly up? i dont want that happening when im going 90mph.
